Dennis looks east of his projected path

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Used this last year with Charley. I just thought it was a pretty good view. Of course, Dennis' eye is not yet fully visible - but soon will be... In any event, as has been mentioned, it surely looks like KW will miss the eyewall.

I'm watching NOAA's doppler radar at:

Under "Base Reflectivity" and "Short Range" click on "Loop"

As I looked at the latest frames, for the last 3 hours or so, Dennis seems to be progressively turning westward, almost like rotating on a rope tied south of Havana in the coastal waters south of Cuba.

It's now looking likely that Dennis will run right over Havana. Given the current motion vector and velocity of the storm, he might overshoot the projected path and eject from Cuba on a much more westerly than northwesterly track, after performing that particular evil magic that hurricanes can do, on Havana.

Cuba's capital is now right in the boresite. I bet NHC didn't project Dennis going through Havana at a bearing of 280-290 degrees, however.

Shouldn't this thread be locked (or its title at least changed)? I know it was created a while back, but Dennis is pretty clearly moving west of its projected path now, and someone just now coming in could read the title and think it's moving more easterly.

Probably my tired eyes. But now we have lost the earlier frames that I think gave a better comparison. Gonna have to just wait a little. I need a break anyway!

Another observation.

Just from observation, it appears that considerably over half the circulation of Dennis is over water, not land. While the core is over land, the energy drawn from the warm ocean waters will help sustain the strength of Dennis. I don't think he will get much weaker before getting back over water. If anything, he might even strengthen before going offshore.
