PLEASE. Check topics before posting new ones.

#1 Postby Amanzi » Fri Jul 08, 2005 8:23 am

Sorry to do this guys, but PLEASE check the topics before posting a thread on the same subject. The board is getting busy, and it is much easier if we all just check before starting a new topic thread on something that already exists. It also makes it way easier for everyone to follow all the information and opinions.

To help that situation, be sure the subject line is a good description of the discussion so you don't have to read 15 posts to find one that addresses your topic.

I also believe its best if Brent wasn't allowed to post. He is too short with his posts....until he can become long winded to the point of rambling like myself (and others on here  ) I think we need to suspend him.

Justtttt kidding Brent

cheers,

Very good suggestion!

I know everyone's brains are working overtime, but please take a moment to think before starting a new thread. It will help us all in the long run.

can I also request that if you intend to make a thread about another storm i.e. Emily, that isn't the main topic of discussion, please indicate which storm you are talking about in the title...rather than titles like:
OMG look at this!
Instead, use something like: OMG look at soon to be Emily!

Seriously, guys -- please try to join in an already established conversation instead of running into a room, making a statement, and then running out again.

If your comment or question is about movement, look carefully -- there is already a thread about Dennis's movement.

If it's about the ridge, go to someone's previous thread about the ridge and discuss it there.

Also, try to keep regional discussions within one thread -- if you're posting about evacs in Alabama or what a Bama met has to say or that Lowe's in Mobile has a new shipment of generators, try to keep it in a main Bama thread so all the Alabamans (is that right? :) ) can see it and refer to it quicker. (Of course, the generator post could preferably go in the Hurricane Prep forum.)

Why not place some rules during 'peak times' such as user must have 100 posts before starting a new thread. Or user with less than 300 posts is limited to 1 new thread per day during peak times.

During the offseason the rules could be relaxed. Just a thought. It seems most new duplicate threads are by newbies.

Here is another thought. In order to gain 'thread starting' permission a user must complete an extremely kindergarten form such as

1. i will search current threads for ongoing conversations before starting my own thread. (YES) (NO)
2. i will not make forcasts that can scare or endanger other people because I have absolutely no training in meteorology. (YES) (NO)
3. I WILL QUIT SCREAMING ABOUT WOBBLES

I know it's silly but it would be a nice way of reminding people of common board etiqute.

Not always, I've seen anywhere from a new guy to a well educated user, to a mod posting duplicate threads. Sometimes it just happens.

Slowjoe, some of the people with the least informative posts have the most posts, and are apt to start unnecessary topics. So I think newbies should be allowed to post, as they generally post less often new threads.
