This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Daytime or Nightime Landfall on Gulf Coast?

#1 Postby HurricaneGirl » Fri Jul 08, 2005 3:45 pm

I've never been in a hurricane but I think it would be much scarier at night when it's dark. It looks like it's going to be a night time landfaller.

Looks like a mid to late afternoon landfall... 3 or 4pm.

Believe me, if I had been able to see what Hugo was doing to my area, I would have had a heart attack! Thank God, he hit at night!! Sometimes, it is better to not know what is happening. After all, at that point, there is nothing you can do but get in a safe place in your home and pray!

I'm not sure it makes much difference because if you've boarded up your windows, it's pretty dark no matter what time of day.

My little duck tail would be in Arlington when/if I evacuate, so it wouldn't necessarily be eerily scary for me...but I'm sure it would bug the heck out of the family whose home I'd be staying in because I'd probably be up all night watching the news.
