I'm not sure but I think one was issued this Morning. Did you happen to hear on the local news that they aren't sure really how close Dennis will come?

"Orlando" will not have one since Orlando is not on the coast.

I really don't think one is needed for the East Coast up there. NHC track shifted a little west.

No Tropical Storm warning has been issued for us in the Orlando area. A tropical storm watch is currently in effect along the WEST coast of Florida to just north of Tampa.

Here is the Saturday forecast for Orlando (quoted from the Melbourne National Weather Service):

Saturday: Scattered rain and thunderstorms, then rain likely after 8am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Cloudy, with a high around 88. Windy, with a east southeast wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%

Ok, heres the thing. Orlando has and can experience T.S. and Hurricane force winds. "As the crow flies" Orlando is only 40 miles from the east coast. With understanding of all of the above, why would Orlando not be placed under a watch or a warning? Penninsular Florida is unique from all other areas in the lower 48 states in that you are never really that far inland with respect to hurricane effects no matter where you are. 8-)

Well... that's up to the NWS, not the NHC. They only issue watches/warnings for the coast.

I don't think it's needed for the East Coast though. PERIOD. Orlando will see stronger winds and they aren't even expected gusts to TS force there. It's more of a precaution just in case it goes on the right side of the track IMO.

Correct me if I am wrong here but I think that I recall that Lake Okeechobee was under a NHC Hurricane Watch and warning during Frances and Jeane last year. The eastern shore of the lake is just about as far inland as Orlando. I did not know that the NHC only issued watches and warnings for coastal areas. 8-)

That's because it's a body of water. For all other inland areas, it's up to the respective NWS office.
