Well the only real storm I can remember is Ivan even though I was born and raised in Va Beach Va I dont remember any major storms up there ever that did the damage that Ivan did. We did get very lucky a few times with NC getting their teeth kicked in time after time.
But for Ivan....well I slept though most of it. Both me and my 9 month old son more or less slept the night away. I got up from time to time to check on the big ass trees that were leaning over the house.
But your right, getting up the next AM at first light was eerie. Looked like a war zone. I stayed in Milton, FL with the my inlaws and they got lucky all the big pines in their yard fell away from the house and didnt get any damage to the house at all....got really lucky compared to neighboors and everyone else..
I would prefer a dawn/early AM arrival that way I can see it coming and going and start the clean up and at least have a clue what the next few days will bring...
