It takes 3 hours to get to Paris, but only 35minutes to travel under the English Channel.

National rail stations around London are opening up again, and a lot of the tube should be running again by tomorrow.

I'm focusing my heart and mind on strength, support, and peace for these victims and their loved ones right now.

Thanks for the correction. Even my next door neighbors who were born and raised in England say the same thing - 3 hours. Funny how they all made it sound as if you're under water for 3 hours...... I was surprised at first when they all said that. But that's besides the point, I'd be leary to ride it right now.

Marshall - thanks for saying what we all feel towards our UK 'neighbors' - you are in our thoughts and prayers.

DART, emergency officials on alert after attacks

By BRETT SHIPP / WFAA ABC 8

DALLAS, Texas - Dallas Emergency Management officials are responding accordingly to the deadly terror attacks in London Thursday morning.

Though the strike was half a world away and there were no specific threats in North Texas, DART employees and transit police have been told to be on high alert, meaning vigilance and a keen awareness by workers of anything suspicious on the trains and at transit stations. Police will also make their usual sweeps of the trains at the end of the lines for unattended baggage.

Dallas police have also beefed up their presence downtown, posting additonal tactical team officers and a mobile command unit.

Law enforcement and transit officials are working closely with emergency management workers who are monitoring events in London and elsewhere in the world as they unfold, but no full alert has been issued locally, so officials feel there is no reason at this time to fully staff and activate the emergency management center in the basement of Dallas City Hall.

"It could be a number of different things that could potentially trigger an activation," said Jerry Martin of the Office of Emergency Management. "Knowledge of specific threats to Dallas could do the same kind of thing, but we are constantly monitoring these events and and are in contact with all of our key planning contacts, so if that was a need we could quickly pull them together."

News 8 also talked to several DART passengers this morning, most of whom are aware of events in London but not deterred from using the light rail or city buses.

Still no word from our school group in London.

I am sure everything is okay. I do not believe that they were supposed to be on the subway this morning. I imagine phone service may be hard to come by.

ABC News radio now reporting that there were two other explosive devices located, but they did not go off.

I'd be interested in knowing what type of device was used and how it was disguised, so we can be on the alert. Maybe it was a backpack bomb or something new they hadn't tried before?

That's awesome...those unexploded devices are a treasure trove of clues...if officials there were able to trace a piece of a radio back to its point of origin and tie it to Libyan intelligence agents (Pan Am Flight 103), imagine the clues a complete device could yield...

Their days are numbered...

They are investigating the possibility that the bus bombing was a suicide attack, which if true, would mean we can expect more of these smaller but deadly attacks. I guess they've given up on a 9/11 style attack.

Just got word about a half hour ago that everyone is safe. They were siteseeing and had just gotten off the subway to go to see something else when the attacks occurred. (The line they were on was not attacked.) But because the busses and such were stopped, they had to walk all the way back to the hotel before they could call. (Apparently it took about 4 hours.) Their hotel is very close to King's Cross. :o

I am glad to hear that they are safe. Thanks everyone for your concern.

i doubt the british people are in fear. they survived daily bombing by germany, v1 and v2 attacks, and ira attacks. it is past time we closed the borders here.

From what I saw of the British people, fear and cowering was the LAST thing to be evidenced. They were stoic, matter-of-fact, and will be determined to act....in the best tradition of Winston Churchill rallying the Realm when the Luftwaffe threatened their cities.

Obviously, the Islamists underestimated the UK, as they did the US...NOTHING would steel the Brits more than an assault on their homeland. :larrow: "He who is ignorant of history..." :larrow:

Or, as was heard in the House of Commons, Hear, hear! (Rowdy bunch, that...completely out-of-control!)

I have no idea what you are talking about.

:?:

Anyways on to matters which makes sense...

This is a sad day in London, England today...37 people dead and 700? injured in the accidents. The 'TUBE' was one of the world's more busy Subway systems in this world with over 3 million people taking it per day. By causing an explosion it jammed up the whole underground 'network'. Hopefully tommorrow things will be half-way to normal there.

I dont know if you know this or not. But they are already in the states. Closing the borders will not do much....They will need to be tracked down and killed.. Like seriously...

They are always like that, they are like children most of the time.

Sadly the death toll is up to 38, of which 36 were on the tube. I won't say some of the stories I've heard on the news today as they are too disturbing.

The british people I dont think would fear this..They gotten kinda used to the attacks of the 40's from the axis. 50's 60's 70's 80's and 90's from the IRA/Irish attacks..The American people however we are not set up to deal with attacks..

Sliding in here, late this evening, with thoughts and
prayers for our friends across the Pond! Patients were
coming in and telling us about the attacks, and, someone
had the TV in the lobby on CNN News, but, there was
no way that I could stop and catch up on the news. So,
I'm catching up, quite late, this evening.

Garrett, I'm glad the students were all safe, as well!
