Board issues

#1 Postby mf_dolphin » Thu Jul 07, 2005 11:45 am

Looks like we got one problem fixed yesterday but a different one has cropped up today. If you get a phpbb critical error wait a few minutes before refreshing. Whatever you do, do not hit refresh continously. That only makes things worse. I'll see if I can't do some more tuning tonight to improve things but we need to be nice to the server today. Thanks for your cooperation today!

Time for another fundraiser for improved equipment? I'll donate again this year if that is what it takes.

That's actually a great idea Cape Verde. An upgrade is expensive and we would need donations to do so. Any and all donations, big or small, would be greatly appreciated! :)

There's a Paypal link on the homepage.

Really Storm2k should hold monthly Fundraisers. Just because if you notice the site has been growing rapidly with many more members. And as those number of members and posts reach a certain level the hardware is not able to take the load.

Though if you want to there could be just one big fundraiser and storm2k could buy a MEGA SERVER with over 10 TERA Bytes of Space on it. That would be really expensive but in all likelyhood you would never have to upgrade the server again.

well, when I got critical error, my reaction was;
oh no, not again this year too!
can't this be fixed?
and I thought also that I will be glad to add some dollars to the pot, if this is what it takes.
we have to be able to log on or we all will have serious withdrawal pains and high anxiety.
this is such an important web site during the cane season.
and a monthly fundraiser is a great idea!

We're going to make another software change this evening that should help with the critical errors. :-) SOmetimes you just have to get under a load to see where you really need to tweak things. However, it takes 150.00 a month just to keep us running with the current server. Any and all donations go 100% to the board and are greatly appreciated :-)

I'm happy to contribute, but I wish the NHC/govt. would fund this board. It provides such a valuable service so closely tied to their mission, it would be in their interest to do so and I'm sure it would cost them a relative pittance.

Couldn't access chat last night; problems?

I was unable to access your chat both late last night and early today. Is the chat room down for maintenance or just operating on overload?

If an upgrade is needed and you plan to use the funds to buy new equipment or whatever, I'd suggest that you set it out on a new thread with the fundraising goal clearly stated.
Hold a weatherthon and keep us posted on how much you've raised and when you reach your goal.
Just my two cents. (I would donate more than that, of course.)
