Forecast track models are very wide beyond 72 hours. The North American Regional model (NAM) takes Dennis into south Florida early Saturday morning and the Canadian model shows Dennis hugging the west coast of Florida then moving northward. These two models seemed to catch the strength of the Atlantic ridge at times much better than other computer models. So, we can't discount these solutions just yet.

Please give me some models to verify. I still think your right, but I'd say a little to the left of the farthest NHC track...

1) I've been sticking to my initial prediction and if I eat crow, pass the ketchup ;)

2) I'm shocked as well at the lack of comments.

3) I think there's something to be said for consistency, and these have been pretty consistent....but, on the other hand the others have too I suppose.

4) NO!! I'm NOT -removed-. :)

Have you looked at the NAM? It brings a very broad, weak low(AKA Depression) into SW Florida, not a dangerous hurricane.

Oh Lord, no you don't want it reeef. There are a lot of folks here that will tell you that trough experience. I used to feel the same way. Exciting yes! At first. Then the worry, prayers, and most of all the destruction and clean up. I went through two major typhoons in Guam Pamela and Nancy. Pamela literally ripped the grass out of the ground. Sustained winds of 165 and gust tii 210 mph. It also crept at 3 mph so it was a long, nerve racking experience. When I got out of the service and went home to Baytown, Tx. I went through Alicia. I stuck it out in a frame home with mu wife and I got worried. I had boarded the windows etc. but that house vibrated and my portable radio was continually putting out stuff about tornadoes here and there. The trees that were down just around my house were not only a pain to clean up but amazed me that the old house had withstould the storm after seeing the size of some that went down. Three miles from me some homes that were brick were devastated.

Their official writeup still targets/centers Mobile Bay. I think that could be fairly accurate. JB is west of there, but it seems as though AL/NWFL are as good of calls this far out as any. I don't have one.

Clearly no one in the Central Gulf ----> Eastward to Florida is out of the woods yet. It is nervewrecking I know but I dont think we will get a good track on Dennis until late tomorrow or early Friday. Too many variables right now to say for certain where he will go.

Reeef,

Imagine being without electricity during the middle of July for a week or possibly more... that is what will happen if it comes your way.... Imagine being under a curfew to where you can't be out on the street after 7pm, even to visit your elderly grandmother in a nursing home.... that is what will happen if it comes you way.... Imagine, no computer, TV, Xbox, no warm bath or shower or air conditioning for over a week.... NOW do you still want Dennis to come to TX?

Becareful what you wish for...

I gotta admit, I used to think the same way as Reeef a long time ago. I still don't mind a Cat 1. But anything more really, really sucks.

I was the same way for a while, till some big ones really tore up NC. The last one decimated the eastern half of the county, people had to be pulled off of roofs. However, since its a small county without much political pull we didn't even get FEMA aid. No government help for the people that lost everything. My family was lucky, we just lost a couple of windows and our dog, I did love that dog though :(

Sad and touching story, seahawk, surely hope you don't have to endure that again!

all I have to say is buy a damned generator NOW.
If you dont, there wont be any in 2 days anywhere on the Gulf Coast.
WE made htis mistake with Lili, buying a generator the day before the storm, on our way out of town. We managed to find one, but it wasnt in Lafayette I htink we found one way up in Alexandria.

I've already heard some places around the Florida Panhandle are sold out already.
