Who Remembers Jamaica Radio Live During Ivan?
Many of you, I'm sure, remember the heartening discussions streaming live from Jamaica last year during Ivan. Those folks were wonderful optimists in the face of extreme conditions!! Here's the link to that original thread:

Thank you for posting that. I remember Radio Jamaica vividly. It must have really had an impact on me, too, because as I was watching the latest TWC report, and they pointed towards Jamaica, I said, "Naw. It won't hit Jamaica. They always go around Jamaica." --without a second thought. LOL! It's contagious... I will have to listen in, though. Truly fascinating.

I'm listening now, tonight's topic on "Dr. Pastor" or whatever the name of the show is, is "When is a man needed most." Hahahahah.
They opened with "We're under a hurricane...warning...and we're here to empathize with you, experience with you..."
These guys are a trip. And they have a 1-800 number!

I listened all night as the hurricane hit. I remember it very much so. I remember listening to the phone calls and the reports during the storm. I also remmber the concern about the prisoners.
The music took me back. I prayed so hard for them that night. I was scared for them. I will never forget that.
I'm glad someone rehashed this topic.

Totally laid back. I'm very impressed.
Kinda inspiring, huh!!
YES. I need to get some island attitude. I certainly hope they stay safe during whatever Dennis gives them. And I'm learning about vitiligo!

Very wonderful experience listening to those folks. I've recounted to folks several times about the break they took, going to some sort of Jamaican gospel music and watching Ivan loop around and away from the Island. Completely awesome.. Oh yeah, this was their NATIONAL radio station. Not some bohuncus fringe station.
Oh yeah, I remember the insane politicialiization of whoever the "opposition" party guy was raising a stink about the "state of emergency" declaration being unnecessary and an abuse of the government's power.

Yes and they did that with Ivan. I remember thinking "man, these guys must be smoking the ganjah to not be freaking out right now!"

OMG!!! I so remember this! They were fantastic! I also cried and prayed for them during that time and me and the DJ exchanged emails! Also listened to the ham radio's afterwords. Thankyou so much for posting the link to the thread. I was just thinking about the radio station but didn't think to look up the thread.
