Pensacola preparing for the worst

#1 Postby Opal storm » Wed Jul 06, 2005 4:39 pm

It hasn't even been a year since Ivan and Pensacola is once again under the threat of a major hurricane late this weekend.Local met here said this morning people in the viewing area need to start preparing for a major hurricane NOW.I'm starting to see the plastic bags around the pumps at some gas stations and Wal Mart was PACKED with people stocking up on water and flashlights and other hurricane supplies.

Deja vu...

All local stores are already out of generators and low on plywood. I just went too Ft Walton to get a generator and they only had 2 left. Gas lines are unbelievable..........everyone here is not taking ANY chances!!

I was at Walmart earlier today in Houma, La., and 80% of the people with buggies had water, bread, batteries...all the essentials. It's good to see that since people around here normally wait to the last minute. I guess with all the hype that the local mets area giving, they're starting to get scared.

Yes, I did have a bad feeling about Pensacola when they decided to rebuild the base after Ivan.

However, given that I have interests in the Orlando area, I hope that Dennis does not try to do a right hook.

The models do continue to shift west but the official track continues to aim for Pensacola/Mobile.

What is bad about GOM Hurricanes, is that they are never fish! Somebody has to get affected no matter what.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the official track call for landfall somewhere from Gulfport to Pascagoula at the 11 pm advisory today.

I was surprised the 5pm track wasn't closer to MS. I'm suspecting if the models don't change it'll be into SE LA in the morning.
