Glad you are safe. It might as well been a hurricane for you guys.

I hope Dennis does not hit NOLA as a large CAT3 next week. Something you need to watch very carefully over the next few days.

I pray Dennis spares us---TS Cindy was enough for awhile.

Hopefully everyone learned a lesson last night. Everyone was thinking (including me), "oh, it's only a tropical storm. It's not even a hurricane". Well Cindy kicked our butt last night for a tropical storm.

So glad to hear you are safe!!! Hopefully, the rest of your "neighbors" along the N. Gulf Coast will check in during the day and let us know how they are doing.

Be careful! Remember, it is still dangerous after the storm passes.

Yep... I was talking to one of my people I follow TV with whose in New Orleans and he was complaining about the mess Cindy left. I told him about Dennis and he's like, "I don't care about intensity, if it's coming here, I'm gone".

Glad you are alright. I pray it wasn't meant to be a "wake up call" for you folks for the rest of the season. No one should have to face more than one a season - big or small.

Stay safe,

I thnik many underestimate the mess, chaos and havoc that "mere" tropical storm can cause.
we think if it isn't a cane, then there are no problems and that is hardly the case.
I can imagine that things in LA. must be a mess but thank God everyone is safe.

I don't think many people live in New Orleans for very long without having a sense of how strong tropical storms can be.

Still, who would have thought that a maximum sustained speed of merely 44 mph would cause hundreds of downed trees causing impassable streets, over 250,000 people without power in metro New Orleans, several closed bridges, an apparently sturdy street light pole to be knocked down in St. Bernard, major intersections closed, and more. This was not the level of storm to blow off roofs, but did cause widespread tree damage and local authorities ask us to stay off the street.

That level of damage certainly has never happened in other events that I have experienced with winds of 45 mph or so. The winds that I witnessed at my home in Metairie were of the same level as wind of 60 mph with gusts to 80 mph, that I have experienced in the past. I am surprised and perplexed at how low the measured wind speeds were compared with observations. Maybe I didn't see the right maximum measured winds? My neighbors are FURIOUS that we were told this would be primarily a rain event, and many felt sucker-punched by this storm.

Thank goodness I experienced no damage other than the usual 6' tree limbs down, messy yard, and so on. My next door neighbors' large tree was snapped in half, falling on their roof and damaging their house. Across the street, other neighbors had minor damage of some kind (looks like gutters or soffits or siding down?).

Just before landfall, oil platforms just a few miles off the coast of Grand Isle clocked gusts to 99mph. We're lucky that Cindy came ashore when she did because it looked like she wanted to play a little harder.

Been having trouble posting. But I wanted to check in. Things seem okay in Chauvin. We just got power back, but it was somewhat rougher than I expected. Thank God we got a NE wind instead of something from the south. It came in just east of us and fortunatly that was enough to keep the wind in our favor and keep us from flooding. I do not think grand isle was so lucky, but I can not get any info. Glad everyone is safe.

Cindy will be a hurricane in post-storm analysis. Just like Gaston last year.

Last night was a wake up call. Time to get ready for the real thing. Get your hurricane kit ready and know where you are going to go. Keep all eyes on Dennis and just stay alert to the situation. Love all my friends at Storm2K and hope everyone stays safe this 2005 season!

Yeah cajungal. I'm glad I had a hurricane kit for last night. Thank goodness I had those flashlights handy. When the lights went out I had two kids running around screaming. Now I have just to restock on food they could not sleep so they wiped out my supply of emergeny gatorade and snacks.

I give Cindy a 5 out of 5 for a tropical storm. She brought me everything - downed Pecan limbs (on the order of 18-22' each); blew off molding I have to repair, a flooded street and finally my power went out around 2:30ish only to wake me up with that power surge sound and then realizing I had to reset my alarm clock, that forced me to think and stay up longer while the winds were howling. I still don't have digital cable or internet service. Frankly, I was kind of surprised she was as ferocious as she was. Tropical storms are primarily rain events when they come through here, but Cindy brought the winds. A good time was had by all at my house until my alarm clock went off at 7 and I realized I had about 4 hours of sleep and have to saw away tonight. Ugh.
