I'm in Tampa and the news keeps going nuts about how Never before have we had this many storms this early in the season
OK. I understand, as everyone here does, (I Hope) that this means never before as in never in the last what, 50 years?
People, (and not the people here who obviously have some science background) the earth is a couple billion years old. Who knows what kind of blip this is on the radar screen. Who knows, maybe 2 years before Colombus came to America there was 7 storms by this point.
And just perhaps, with this ferocious start to the hurricane season, things could average out. I mean that is why they are called averages right?
Of course, I could be wrong and this could be the worst hurricane season of all time! But the point is, we won't know until its over.
Anyways, glad I could vent.
Perspective Anyone?

It's happened before. Everyone wants to feel special, that's all.
Keep in mind global cooling and warming over the millenia. That's part of the nature of the planet. It's not static, and as a result, the weather isn't either.
The news folks have to write something and fear grabs viewers (That's why the news is full of murders and very little good news.)
It's unusual in modern times, yes. But, that's it. The earth's been here for 4.5 billionyears or so. We've measured, what, 150? It's happened before (worse) and will happen again.
That said...I really need to get some shutters made
