Will there be sheer to weaken Dennis in the gulf?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Will there be sheer to weaken Dennis in the gulf?

What's stopping Dennis from hitting Cuba as a Cat 3 and then becoming a Cat 4 or 5 in the gulf?

Cuba itself...the mountains weaken it then it takes time to recover.

It won't weaken much at all if it passes Cuba in the skinny part over or west of Havana.

its currently expected to pass over western parts of Cuba which is much flatter and will not weaken the storm significantly if at all. Charley from last year is an example of this.

I'm just curious to know if the professional mets have an idea what the dry air/shear environment will be when Dennis enters the gulf.

That's huge. It'll be the difference between whether we see a Cat 1/2 or a 3/4/5.

Cuba will give Dennis a pause in strengthening, but other than that it appears right now nothing is going to keep it from intensifying.....even in the GOM.

if there's going to be shear, its likely to be in the caribbean and during the next 36 hours.

The center is on the very western edge of the convection, a sign of some shear over the system
