79MPH at offshire rig

#1 Postby PTPatrick » Tue Jul 05, 2005 5:04 pm

If i heard correctly on WKRG out of mobile, they were talking to a guy on a rig in the gulf that has recorded 79 MPH winds...which I assume were gusts...and if this continues to edge NNE it has 5-10 more hours over water.

Pat,

Bastardi had Cindy's lowest possible pressure at 996. Recon found 997 around 3:10 at 90.6/2somethingpointsomething. :) So it's got a real shot. Remember Vipir last night had that other burst of intensification at secondary landfall in central MS which extended across the AL border. If anyone has Jason Kelly in Panama City Beach, I know he's got Viper. Let me know if it's still blowing it up hard at 2nd landfall. If Viper is still intensifying, I could see 993 if during a maximum. Thanks.

I've been saying this for awhile now, and this is not a surprise to me.

She was forecast to strengthen right before landfall. The stronger she gets the further east she will go IMO.

She is a lopsided system, which means that whereever she makes landfall, most of the really nasty weather will be to the east of wherever she comes ashore.

Does Bastardi have his own recon plane that found him a 996mb pressure? :)

Keep a watch on the Bouy that is off the SW tip of the Mississippi Delta - already over a 4mb drop in pressure over the last hour with constant winds at 15 M/S (30Knts)...

This bouy looks to be in a good postion to clip the "eye" on the western side over the next few hours and it might well be our best best for a wind surface Ob.
