This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

05/15 V7HC9 27.5 -89.8 25.0 100 50 1010.2 1.0 * V7HC9

Cindy is getting stronger and may well reach minimal hurricane strength. About to go over the highest heat content in the entire GOM over the next 6 hours!!!

Cindy is CURRENTLY going through that patch of ocean. That's the reason why over these past few hours convection has BLOSSOMED strongly near the circulation center indicating that the LLC is finally becoming consolidated. It's no surprise that 60-70 mph winds are found in the GOM at this time.

All this further proves the point that the system is indeed not wasting any time and it could come VERY close to hurricane strength as it approaches the MS coastline.

It would be no surprise that recon finds a strong tropical storm when it reaches it. Pressure could easily be in the mid 990s and winds in excess of 60 mph this afternoon...

Station to monitor as Cindy approaches:

So far, 32 knot winds out of the east.

If she is going to be a hurricane, this is the time that she is going to make the most progress. No better place to be in the entire GOM than "RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!"

Given the current visible sat, I would not be surprised if they close off an eyewall in the next recon pass. Not saying a hurricane, but an eyewall.

A SHIP JUST NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER REPORTED WINDS NEAR 70 MPH...BUT
QUALITY CONTROL ANALYSIS INDICATES THAT THESE WINDS ARE LIKELY A
LITTLE TOO HIGH. NEVERTHELESS...CINDY APPEARS TO HAVE STRENGTHENED
A LITTLE MORE AND MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE ESTIMATED TO BE NEAR
60 MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. A NOAA HURRICANE HUNTER PLANE IS
NEARING CINDY AND SHOULD GIVE MORE DEFINITIVE INTENSITY
INFORMATION. SOME ADDITIONAL INCREASE IN STRENGTH IS POSSIBLE
BEFORE LANDFALL.
