I have just watched TWC, Biloxi TV weather and Mobile TV weather...
and seen the NHC info... the reality is the as we all know... the worst
weather in these systems is to the east of the center. As I look at the
official NHC track AND all the others... they all imply the worst will of
the weather will be beween Bay St. Louis and Gulf Shores. No WATCHES?
There are 10's of thousands of visitors on these beaches. Many of which
aren't from the area.
If this thing intensifies... what a shame...
I am NOT implying that politics is playing a roll in this...even though
storm watches would be devistating to the Casino's in MS and the
tourist beaches in AL....

I think they are just waiting for the 00Z model runs. The models have been flip flopping and they won't to make sure of some continuity before making changes. IMHO

Sean in New Orleans wrote:Well, it is only a depression, still, tonight. Our Summertime daily thunderstorms produce worse weather every day for all of us along the Gulf Coast.
Agreed totally. The weather over the last week has been similiar to what this depression looks to have at the moment. We've been catching 50 mph winds each time a storm blows through here.
This storm has a lot of growing to do and it might very well over night. If it does... the warnings and watches will come... if not they'll adjust the track accordingly.

Well, watching these last few frames, I wouldn't be surprised if they upgrade the depression to Cindy. There have been some decent flare ups, tonight.

Granted the casinos are a big money maker in the Biloxi/Gulfport area and no doubt about the fact that they do drive local politics at times. But do you honestly feel the casino's can affect NWS decisions? Ultimately isnt it up to the NWS to issue the watches/warnings? Do you think the NWS would be so crooked as to take casino bribes when lives could be at stake? I hope not! I hope the casino industry does not play a role when it determines when watches or warnings should be posted. After all the casino's built here knowing that the MS Gulf Coast was a hurricane prone area.

chill jax,
the storm/td is really not much now and there is still plenty of time. what almost 36 hours. If the storm rapidly intensifies which i think is unlikely at this point, there will be time to get the warnings out. I think the NHC does consider the ramifications of their watches and warnings but I do not believe that they would ever endanger people due to negative effects of a watch or warning. After all SELA is in the forecast track and New Orleans does not have a watch, go figure.

I agree that the NWS doesnt have any stock in what the Casino's want Just like the Casinos dont take direction from the NWS...I was suprised to see the last storm that even though we were under a TS WARNING the casinos stayed open...Smart move Considering what happend with the worst of the storm Staying east! But you never know!
