18Z GFDL....

#1 Postby MGC » Sun Jul 03, 2005 10:44 pm

Sometimes the models just make you laugh. The 18Z GFDL brings a 1002mb TS to the Louisiana coast, moves the cyclone into Mississippi south of Jackson and intensifies it to a 991mb hurricane inland.....MGC

I had a strange dream the other night. The dream was of the movie the Godfather and the people were named after the weather models. UKMET told someone the GFS was trying to pull a fast one. I woke up laughing my head off.

You're right. I checked it out. It not only produces hurricane force winds, but it does so to the N and NNW, not the NE quadrant, and it even reaches Category 2, somewhere near Jackson, MS. Sometimes these models do crazy things. This leads credence to those who think that it will strike TX instead.

Yeah, but the GFS and GFDL are *really* sucking on this storm.

I guess this just goes as proof that we can't always trust the models. Humans are smarter than machines. [Sorry, just saw 'War of the Worlds' this afternoon!] Sometimes we just have to rely on our own knowledge.
