It looks as though the ULW are allowing the system to ventilate more. Stayed tuned to this batchannel.

Plotted an 18Z map with visible satellite (I'm at home briefly, so you'll have to endure 16-color satellite on my VPN connection to my work PC). I found a ship just off Belize with a WSW 15kt wind and 1010.6mb pressure, indicating a weak surface low nearing the coast of the Yucatan. I don' think this qualifies for depression status yet, but if it weren't for the land in its immediate path it would be a TD within 12 hours...

REPORTS FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT INDICATE
THE AREA OF DISTURBED WEATHER CENTERED JUST EAST OF THE YUCATAN
PENINSULA HAS DEVELOPED INTO TROPICAL DEPRESSION THREE...AND
ADVISORIES WILL BE INITIATED AT 4 PM CDT...OR 2100Z. SINCE THE
DEPRESSION IS NOT EXPECTED TO REACH TROPICAL STORM STRENGTH BEFORE
IT MAKES LANDFALL ALONG THE EAST COAST OF THE YUCATAN PENINSULA
LATER TONIGHT...NO WATCHES OR WARNINGS ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS
TIME.
