96L: no LLC

96L: no LLC

While many of you are already calling for an Texas landfall as a Cat 1 hurricane, I see no evidence of a LLC this evening. I've looked at visible loops for the past hour, including Quikscat (which reveals only east winds) and see only a moderate twisting of the cloud pattern. Now, I don't see why the NHC has alerted a recon plane at all. The convection is scattered, plus the ULL over Cuba is shearing the wave. Unless this thing explodes tonight than I see no reason to ruin an airman's weekend.....MGC

Hehe... thanks for looking out for the airmen! We'll see how things persist over night. As the NHC stated, the recon mission will only go on if necessary. We shall see...

The system at 31 north/49 west looks like it has a LLC with convection mostly over the eastern quad. That is interesting.

I dont look for recon until after it clears the Yucatan and then IF it gets it's act together from there. Looks like we will have to continue to ride this ride to see where it will go.

Ummm, it appears the convection is becoming more concentrated around the circulation.

This disturbance really got its act together overnight. Looks like an airman's weekend is going to be a working one. looks like it has a shot of becoming a TD before crossing the Yucatan......MGC
