Definitely would keep dock work as an option if you can. Specially if they will train you on a forklift. There are tons of dock work jobs out there, many offer part time if you need a second job for a time. My husband did it part time for extra money when times would get lean. This allowed me to stay home with the kids. He ended up switching careers, got his CDL and became a local truck driver. His dock experience helped tons in that too. If you get a year or 2 worth of experience with a forklift... things don't pan out at Wal-Mart for some reason, you may find a great job doing forklift work which can be nice money/excellent benefits with the right outfit. If you stay with Wal-mart..well you'll know the shipping and receiving department!

I just found out today that yet another 1 of my favorite people is leaving. Her reason "I hate it here.. I hate my job.." yada yada yada..
She is now about the 6th great associate/friend I've seen go.. in the past 4-5 weeks..
2 dept mgr's. 1 cart pusher, 2 cashiers, 1 Csm, and I think there is 1 more in there somewhere..
It stinks when you become attached to people and then they drop the company like it's a bad habit.. Some of them have moved on to bigger things.. and others have moved on to just different companies who claim "they will be treated better by"

John, have to be candid, but there are MANY more Wally -World associates that "hate their job." There are MANY websites out there that are against Wal-Mart from both a customers and associates point-of-view. Some of them are working off the clock (either working through lunches, or when they are done and off the clock, the management asks them to do a task). I don't blame them in a way. Plus I hear that Wal-Mart's benefits, namely health care, are bad.

Most of our benefits are actually pretty decent.. I dont have any yet lol.. But they are..
If anyone works off the clock.. they are supposed to fill out a time adjustment card so they can be compensated.. It's happened to me 1 or 2x.. I have just finished.. and been approached by a customer.. helped them out, filled out my TA and then later was compensated on my paycheck..
Oh well.. Guess I gotta get used to see my favorites leave.. But it's not fair

No.. Nobody died today lol..
However.. 2 more of my "favorites" at Wal Mart.. were saying farewells.. 1 of them was our Personnel Manager.. Her and I got along quite nicely, and I'll admit.. I even shed some tears when I saw her leave @ 12:30 today. {She normally goes home @ 4 but left early
}
The 1 thing she told me before she left.. is that 1 day "She wants to come in the store and see me on the sales floor somewhere because I deserve it and never give up"..
1 thing I also remember that will stick with me.. When I had my horrific bike accident back in December, this nice woman I worked with..was actually the 1st person to come and see me in the hospital...
Anyway.. There was another.. 1 of our girls who worked in the Deli left today.. I didn't know her as well or was as attached.. But it was to see her go too.. She was a very hard worker and she knew it..
So.. lets' see.. On our "Mass Exodus".. tally.. that's about 10 that have left in about the last 8-10 weeks
I hope the flood gate closes soon.. It's making me depressed to see all my favorite people go..
Plus.. It was awkward all afternoon.. having to pick up buggies in the parking spot that has always been occupied by our personnel manager..
Oh well.. I just have to realize that life does go on.. and I'm sure these people won't become strangers and I'll still see them..

Yeah, I hate to see good people go, too, especially at management/supervisorary levels. I get so used to "the bosses"; when someone else is hired for one of those roles, it takes a while to grow accustomed with them.
By the sounds of it, John, you are a HARD worker!
That personnel manager, wherever she goes, will be hoping that she has a crew with MANY "Johns"!

I understand you are a student? What are you in school for? What are your future plans? Get an education and get out of retail. Most retail stores/chains are a revolving door for employees. I know some make a career of it but those are usually management types and have a degree. I do hope you will continue your education and move on to bigger and better things. Sounds as if you wish to better your lot in life and have the work ethic to do so.

I don't wanna get out of the retail business.. Despite the stress, I actually kinda like it..
Wal Mart is the 1 company I have always wanted to work for.. It may sound silly.. but I am actually living a dream right now.. I usually go into work very happy every day..
Whenever.. I do go back to school.. It'll be to take some Business Management classes so I can get some experience in becoming a manager. My goal is to eventually become either an asst. manager or even a store manager of a Wal Mart 1 day..

LOL! Ain't THAT the truth, the turn over here at "Wally World" is hidious, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE stays over 6 months, most last only 1-2 months! YES....the benefits STINK, trust me......if you have a family, your better off going and buying your OWN, Sam Walton, I'm SURE, is turning over and over and over in his grave the way the *kids* are running (ruining) his life long dream, tisk, tisk, what money does to people

Well.. I have a new update for the WMJ.. after not adding anything for the last few days.
I am apparently 1 of the few people in my store who likes' our new store manager.. or at least is willing to publicly admit it lol..
Anyway.. I thought I'd write him a note and tell him how much I appreciate his work.. and how well I think he's running our store..
Forgive me if it makes me sound like a suck up lol.. But I thought it'd be a good idea.. to at least let him know at least 1 person appreciates him..

Did some shopping at a Wal-Mart Supercenter tonight with the folks. Among the items...my folks bought some paint markers to donate for our church's Vacation Bible School next week and I bought some boxes of water-proof band aids, gauze and gauze tape for my SS class project's love gift for a group who is going to Africa to donate to a doctor and his practice there.
My SS teacher and his wife know the peeps who are going over there.

Just got back from the Saratoga Springs Super Center. I hate Walmart, but go there everyweek, because I hate Target even more
I bought a cheap watch last week and it broke. Didn't have the original packaging, but did have the receipt. The nice lady at the jewelry counter let me do an exchange (which is all I wanted) and I ended up with the watch I wanted but the other store didn't have. Target would have sent me walking without the packaging
