Before you die, what new law do you think will go into effect. What big change in our government and freedoms.


Me... I think before I die, In God We Trust will be taken off our coins and bills because certain groups will say it is endorcing a religion and they will prevail in the end.

I hope the estate tax b.s. is finally sorted out...That's a tough pill to swallow. My earnings are taxed as they're received, then the gov taxes them again upon my passing. I've always thought that was a load of you-know-what.

Before I die, sadly, the terminally ill, esp. elderly terminally ill will be legally "put to sleep"...by euthansia without their permission.

I've already seen the forerunners of this sinister "cost cutting" legislation infringing upon the rights of dying elderly members in my own family. In 1999 and 2000, medicare tried to stop blood transfusions being given to my terminally ill great aunt, stating those units were needed for "younger, healthier" men and women.
Even though she had worked her rear off for over 40 yrs in a sewing plant, paying taxes, and donating hew own blood with regularity to Red Cross...she wasn't deemed "worthy" to recieve life sustaining transfusions (which always perked her up, even until the week before she died).

Just late today, medicare ordered my great aunt Millie's doctor to discharge her ASAP...to a hospice, home, or a nursing home; to do so on a holiday weekend without me getting any prior notice. I finally convinced the doctor to wait until tomorrow (since Granny was pitching a fit); but I wanted aunt Millie to be kept at Wellstar Douglas hospital until after the 4th....especially since my grandmother's 92nd birthday is on Monday/ Independence Day.

Medicare doesn't give a darn about my grandmother's feelings, nor my great aunt. All they know is medicare number 2##-##-#### is dying, now in a coma, has no hope of recovery, and since she can't get better, has to die in a strange hospital instead of familiar surroundings....not because of overcrowding, but because "Wellstar Cobb Hospital" is the "official" hospice waiting list provider in this area.

Maybe this isn't a big deal to you, but try explaining to a stressed and confused little 92 yr old woman (Granny) why her younger sister will be the ONLY member of her family since 1974 to die anywhere else except Douglas hospital (and I honestly don't believe aunt Millie will live until Tuesday, regardless of where she is...her breathing is becoming increasingly shallow this evening; IMO the 14 mile ride from Wellstar Douglas to Wellstar Cobb hospital inside a private ambulance tomorrow will end her life

The sick and elderly are already being disrespected....IMO they are already seen as "expendable" and "not worthy" of spending taxpayer money on (I saw several vivid examples of this being done to patients while aunt Millie was in the nursing home last month). It's IMO only a matter of time until euthansia becomes as common as hospice or abortion is today

Like I've said before I have no religion but I think all this take god off everything is a bunch of crap... I think people that support these things need to get a life...

I also would like something done about the estate tax. I think we will continue to lose some of are freedoms but if it keeps airliners from crashing into buildings so be it...

I think some form of gay unions will be recognized - judging from what is happening in Canada and Europe, I think it is only a matter of time.

I think marijuana in small amounts will be decriminalized, and its medicinal use will be legalized. I also would like to think that other "illicit" drugs with possible medical or psychological benefits (like MDMA) will be able to be studied and perhaps even prescribed.

I hope that race-based affirmative action will be overturned - and I hope the need for it will be completely eliminated (its getting closer, but at the moment I think arguments can be made for both sides).

Then again, its possible that the upcoming nominations could make the above next to impossible, at least in the foreseeable future...

I'd love to see mandatory public service for all criminals with a program for those at the local level to work on local projects and those at the state and federal level to be required to pick up litter along roadway, work on public works projects, and in other ways give something back to those from whom they take tax money to live.

I'm not a big fan of our Sheriff Joe Arpaio here in Maricopa County, but every time I see his chain gangs working along the freeways or elsewhere, I consider voting for him again.

Southernwx--My dad was terminally ill last July. The docs wanted to send him to hospice but my mom decided to take him home with HOME hospice care. He died 3 days later with his entire family at his side.

I am really sorry to hear about your aunt and wanted to be sure you knew about hospice provided in the home. They were wonderful. When we knew the time was comming the nurse came and stayed--for almost 20 hours. I don't even know if this is an option for you--just wanted to provide the information in case it would help. Hospice arranged for tube feedings, all needed equipment and had it in the house set up and ready for his transfer.

Before I die, I'm hoping there will be a serious crackdown on bootleg CD's and pirated movies as well as stricter laws involving peer-to-peer sharing and downloading.

Before I die I would like to see stricter penalties for ... yep you guessed it.... sex offenders... Enforcing a "One strike and your out law". If you commit a Sexual crime and are found guilty of it you are sentenced to life in prision, no early parole, no probation, no house arrest. I understand that a slight minority of those incarcerated may be innocent. But we have to do SOMETHING to protect our youth in America!

AMEN Brother, the way this world is going, there's no TELLING what kinda crap is going to be passed, especially with the current, well, I won't go there let's just say, the US will be run by illegal's from Mexico........of COURSE, we COULD control that but.............................................

I would like to see a MANDATORY death penalty for premedited murder. None of this "life" bs so they can kill a corrections officer too. Ditto for sex offenders..especially the ones who prey on children. The cant molest if they are 6 feet under can they? Take the TV's and board games out of prison and bring back the old chain gangs. An old friend of mine spent some time on one in Virginia back in the 60's and hasnt had as much as a traffic ticket since. He said the backbreaking work 6 days a week made a believer out of him. No doubt many others led crime free lives after their release too.
