Who here lives in a mandatory evacuation zone?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

What is freaky about that is how far inland you are!!! That evacuation is due to surge and not wind even though there would be very little left in your area due to the winds also at those Categories.

They divided my parish into zones. They say everyone here is at risk if a slow moving Cat 3 or above.

I live on the intracoastal and about 1/2 mile from the beach. We get the sheriff coming around with the mouthpiece hollering for us to leave. We never have though and have been lucky. :D

Our house in Anna Maria is one house away from the GOM. I was down there when Charley was approaching and had to evacuate when they thought it was coming right up Tampa Bay. They even turned off the power to the island so it wouldn't have been fun to stay anyway.

Hurricanes on barrier islands are not for sissies!

Yep. You are SOoooo right about that.

Scary that my neighbors will NOT leave now. They think they lived through a Cat 3 and two Cat 4's last year. Truth is, by the time we got the winds here they were more like a strong Cat 1.

Nebraska is looking better all the time!

I live in a mandatory evacuation area because I live on a river and the houses in my neighbor are built up on stilts or pilings... SO even in a flash flood most of my neighbors and myself have to move our boats and personal vehicles a couple of streets up to higher ground and either wade in or canoe or kayak into the neighborhood, it usually happens a couple of times a year whether we get a T.S. or hurricane or not. I evacuate to work because I work in a hospital. My house sits 22 feet off the ground and I have never had to worry about water in my house

I think flood water in the house is one of the worst things that can happen.
