Get ready Texas

#1 Postby Guest » Fri Jun 24, 2005 1:57 pm

The ULL over Southern Florida now moving west will eventually be a rain maker for you in Texas, should take some heat off of you. Now that having been said, we could see a hybrid from this system if it stays in the GOM for very long and the dry air around the westside moistens, and it works its self down to the surface. It remains to be seen. Have fun everyone... going to lunch. 8-)

Hmm, haven't read much about that happening in the NWS discussions but it sure would be nice if it did. We could really use the rain here as well.

I'll be very surprised if that happens, although I wish it would. Texas badly needs the rain.

I looked it up. Hope this helps.
rain (rayn)
NOUN:
Water condensed from atmospheric vapor and falling in drops.
A fall of such water; a rainstorm.
The descent of such water.

Wonder if we'll really see something like that here in TX. I'll have to blog it if we do.

Dont remind me of what my water bill is going to be if we don't start getting rain.

So far we haven't had to water but we are almost to that point. Probably next week sometime we are going to implement a minimal watering schedule, just enough to keep the grass alive.

March was the last time we have had rain that stayed in the area for a few days... I dont think we have had any good soaking rain since then... I know that this is the driest June on record for Texas... We had 8/10ths of an inch for the month of June.... the driest June on record was in the 30's and they had a 12 th of an inch then.... so yes, it is depressing....

We just had a shower move through - about a quarter inch.
First rain in two weeks.

The dry GOM from the freakin ULL has kept it bone dry and hot down here.

I hope we here in LA get some rain from this system when it passes to our west. We are currently about 4 inches below our normal rainfall.

We feel your pain over here. It's been miserably dry again this Summer.
I've been asking a lot of "old timers" about weather trends as of late,
and have some pretty interesting stuff from them.

They say in years when the tropics are quiet, that we get lots of
showers (sea breeze variety) and good ol' afternoon thunderstorms.
They say since the tropics have gotten really active again, the
"normal" rains have quit, and we have more of the drought like conditions.

I've only lived here since 1999, so I can't attest to the relatively quiet
period from 1970-1994, but from 1999 to date, it's usually very hot
and abnormally dry. Lots of records have been broken or close to it.
Dryest May, June, July, August, many record highs, many record
"warmest low temps", it's certainly different that climatology indicates.

I'm not a proponent of "global warming". Sure, there probably is a
climate change underway right now, but come on, we only have
200 years of weather data, and only half of that I would consider accurate.
How do we really know what is a trend, an anomoly, and a true change?

Living in Houston, I haven't seen a drop of rain for about a month. About 40 drops landed on my windsheild today.

We rejoiced.

I actually came through a light shower just north of Galveston this morning. Of course it stopped 5 miles south of my house. I don't even want to see my water bill this month. I've water the grass twice a week and washed my car almost as often. Still no rain. Maybe I could try painting the house to attract rain.

Actually the ETA's latest run shows moisture building in the central GOM come early next week, but I think it is a result of the Tropical Wave now pushing NW through the Central Carib. and nothing to do with the ULL now currently over Florida. Still, may need to watch the central GOM next week to see if anything gels.
