I know it is cheezy but I often say "I cannot do it captain, I dont have the power"! done in my best scottish accent while usually wrestling with the lid of a jar or some other immovable object!

Thats from star-trek, but i love the way Jim carry did it in Ace Ventura.

Or the hilarious subtitle in "Silent Movie"...Truly, He was the King of the Winos". Mel Brooks with that mega-magnum of booze cracked me up!

I believe the Star Trek quotes were well established in the TV show long before there were ST movies, so those probably wouldn't count as "movie quotes" per AFI's requirements.

However, I agree...someone needs to do some countdowns for the Tops in TV. TVLand has done a few Top 10's, but mostly it's stuff from shows they show.

I've been known to say - Beam me up Scotty - a few times.

This isn't a famous quote or anything but the funniest line from Planes, Trains & Automobiles is the scene after the car far, when John Candy and Steve Martin are stopped by Lenny/the cop, aka Michael McLean........"Son, what the h*ll are you driving here?".......as he says they don't have a working top, or headlights, rear tail lights, etc. but John Candy says the funny thing is the radio still works, imagine that!

We still laugh at any scene from that movie, but that line from the cop sums it all up - hilarious stuff. This is one movie we need to buy, I think.

From My Three Sons, I still crack up when Fred MacMurray asks the delivery room nurse - are there anymore? - as each of the triplets were brought out for new dad Rob to see, one by one. Rob was expecting one baby, Steve/FM knew there might be twins, no one expected triplets. When he asks if there are anymore, it was perfect. Just what the audience was wondering too. I miss the way old TV sitcoms were sometimes - so simple, so funny, so perfect!

NO! Had no idea....go read the Jump the Shark site for MTS. The actress that played Dodie personally responded. Seems many feel her addition was a JTS moment. And she took exception to very negative opinions. But I had no idea he was her brother - wow, they don't look alike! Did they have different fathers?

Nope, I just checked IMDB. Same parents.

I don't think it JTS'd at any point. But it was one of the longest running shows, so it's inevitable that some people would feel that way about it at some point. I thought Dodie was adorable. I wanted a kid sister like that.

I didn't think it was a JTS moment. But maybe when Rob left it was. And the cast did change a lot. One of the most fascinating things I learned about MTS was Fred MacMurray's unusal requests. He wanted to work only a day or two a week. Shunned the cast, shunned the media, was a very private man. They allowed him to film his parts quickly, shooting around him. And out of sequence. That had to be very confusing but they allowed this request! Since I watched the show faithfully, as a child and then in reruns on TV Land and Hallmark I believe, you just naturally assumed the actor was the center of the show off camera. Since his character was a quiet presence on the show. Wrong! Articles I've read state the cast accepted this odd request and gave him his privacy. Didn't make a big deal out of it either. Today if a main character asked for such accommodations, I think they'd be pegged anit-social, trouble maker, etc. Shelley Long was like this and look what it got her - criticism, etc.!

I just read the JTS stuff. Glad so see a few of the posters defending Dodie and even others apologizing for their comments and pointing out that they didn't mean it personally towards Dawn Lyn.

I'm the third or fourth last post, taking up for MTS. You'll probably see it's me....by my comments. Forget how I started it but I thanked her for playing Dodie. Came to her defense.

I always thought that was very unpaternal of FM too! And he also played in a few Disney movies as well. The roles he played just do not match up the actor. Wonder why he was such a loner, when he had utmost respect and seemed to be loved by many?
