Cruel bosses-my story

#1 Postby cajungal » Wed Jun 22, 2005 9:00 pm

What is the cruelest boss you ever had to deal with? I would like to tell my story. It is something that has been eating away at me for a long time. I had this boss at work who was really cruel to me. She would yell at me all the time. I busted my butt to please her. But, nothing ever did. She would still always find something to yell at me about or critizize me. She would talk behind my back and tell other co-workers how much she hated me. And wanted to give me my walking papers. But, she never could find grounds to really fire me. I worked as hard as I could. I rarely ever called in and was never late.

The only thing that kept me from telling her off is the fear of getting fired. I tried finding another job, but had no luck. So, I was stuck. I could not quit or take a chance of being fired. Because I can not be unemployed. I have a car note and other bills to pay. The only thing my parents provide me is a roof over my head and food. Anyway, she was so cruel to me that she had me crying almost every day. Sometimes where I had to excuse myself off the sales floor because I was crying so hard. She would humiliate me in front of other co-workers and customers. I had to go to the doctors and get on Lexapro. I had severe depression, anxiety and was sucidal.

Everytime I would try to ask for a day off, she would schedule me anyway. I would only ask off if I really needed it. I mean, my whole life does not revolve around the store. One time I was serving in my best friend's wedding. And she refused to let me have off! I was forced to call in. And boy, did she holler at me when I came back to work that Monday. We really got into it.

Anyway, I complained to the store manager about how she was treating me several times. I am white and she is black. I thought that was why. But she even treated some black people just as bad. He did not do a thing about it. So, I prayed about it. And she got transferred to another area of the store! So, I don't deal with her anymore. She is no longer my boss. And I just flat out pretend she does not even exist. So, things finally started looking up about 3 months ago. Anyone else got any boss related stories to share with me? I would love to hear them!

I once had a supervisor slam a metal file drawer on my hand on purpose. She wanted me out. To this day I have never figured out what her problem was because we had always gotten along well. What she didn't take into consideration was my personality. You might as well try and move a boulder than mess with me when I feel I'm in the right. I think someone saw what she did to me, because I never mentioned it to a soul but she was gone the next day.

Not really a boss

#3 Postby bevgo » Thu Jun 23, 2005 11:41 pm

I worked with a MD once that tried at least once a week to have me fired. My dad had cancer and I would schedule earned vacation days to go to my home town to help care for him when he had surgery, and started chemo. He said I was missing too much work. Once he accused me of sending a catalog to his home where his wife could see it with his girlfriend's name on it. ( I did not know his address). Those were only a couple of times. He got his in the end though. After I resigned and moved on to a better job the person that replaced me moved the computer that handled the drugs dispensed. No back-up was performed as it was not conected to the modem in the new location and they lost a ton of narcotics and the DEA was on his back and probably still is.

I still have a lot of anger of why she is at the company at all. A manager no less. Yet, she had a book load of complaints about her. The store manager said he would have a talk with her. But, I doubt he ever did. Because she has never changed. Still treats her employees like crap. Since she switched over and is no longer my boss, I do not speak a word to her. But, she will stare at me with a look on her face like she wants to kill me. I never did a thing to her. I don't understand why she hates me so much. When I was working under her, she would give me hardly any hours at all. Once she gave me only 3 hours for the week and 6 hours for the following week. My pay check was only $103 for 2 weeks! How was I going to pay a car note like that? I was furious! And I could complain to all I wanted. Nothing was ever done. I ended up in the emergency room because of stress related to her. I have IBS and am not supposed to be under stress. Stress makes it worse. I was in severe pain and bleeding. And my mom was not very sympathetic over it at all. She thought I was doing something to provoke her. I know that I never did her a thing!
