Help for anyone traveling I-10 bridge in Pensacola (update)

#1 Postby rolltide » Wed Jun 22, 2005 6:07 pm

Here's a link to a site with info. Hopefully they will have the cameras up soon. One note concerning the east bound detour, Once you get to Scenic Highway (Exit 17) you are almost homefree and in a few minutes you'll be across the bridge so just keep going.

:fantastic: Thanks for that link! I got stuck Monday afternoon around midday on I10 eastbound. It was terrible. I would definitely recommend the alternate route on US 90.

Came through there Sunday afternoon (thankfully, I was westbound!!) and the eastbound traffic was backed up for at least a mile - probably more. I would have been miserably P.Oed. if I was in the eastbound lane!!

Would you guys say its relatively ok to go westbound?

We travel to LA (lower alabama), then to Milton, FL, every couple of
months to visit family. I've just stayed on 90 when we leave Milton
headed West back home. Nothing against Pace, but I'd like to get away
from the traffic lights on 90. :D

Fine on the westbound - just remember 40 mph speed limit and no changing lanes on the bridge. Just went through there on Monday. Eastbound was backed up for over a mile.

UPDATE

#10 Postby rolltide » Sun Jun 26, 2005 9:10 am

Bumped this up for anyone planning on comming though here for the 4th of July weekend. Also, don't even think about using Hwy 98 as a detour. The Blue Angels will be having their Pensacola beach show this comming weekend and traffic that way will be a nightmare. For anyone that knows the area your best bet if headed east is to exit I-10 at Nine Mile Rd (ALT Hwy 90) and head east though Pace to Milton. Then take Avalon Blvd south to I-10.

Keith

Also, expect traffic on I-10 eastbound to be backed up more than 5 miles at peak times.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!

These updates are priceless for us.

My wife has one grandmother in a nursing home in Milton, and
the other is in rehab in Pensacola after knee replacement surgery.
Needless to say, we traverse the area a lot, and it's very welcomed news
from all of y'all to know how things are. Next weekend, the one
in rehab should go home to Flomaton AL, and this helps a great deal in that planning. :D
