This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Homestead, Redlands Locals......

#1 Postby TheShrimper » Mon Jun 20, 2005 6:25 pm

Charley wiped out most of the nurseries over here on Pine Island, on the SW coast. I will be coming over to Krome Ave this weekend to purchase some plants, tree's ect. Do the nurseies still abound in that area, or should I look elsewhere. Also, I need to know if El Toro Taco, The Redlands Tavern and the Last Chance Saloon are still in business. Granted, this is off topic in a way, yet due to Charley, all plants in local nurseries here are coming out of your area, and the prices are astronomical due to the fuel prices nowadays. Thanks for any help. TheShrimper.

Yes, there are still tons of plant nurserys and fruit and vegetable stands along Krome.

The Last Chance Saloon is still there....El Toro Taco *I think* is still there, and I'm not familar with the other one you mentioned.

Try a fresh fruit milkshake at "Robert is Here". Yes, that's the name. 192 and 344 Street H.Stead. They are amazing!

Good luck!

PS>>>Hopefully we've dried out by then. It's rained up to 4-5 inches in East South Florida today!

Great news, thanks. There aint nothing better than getting your belly full of Hector's chimichangas, then heading over to the Last Chance for whatever. The LCS is quite unique as you can attest to....things can happen thier at the snap of a finger, calm to turmoil. The only problem with my trips to South Dade is that I usually end up having to get a room for the night, and return to Pine Island on the next day, only of course after sneaking in a trip down Card Sound for some Al. Jack's conch fritters. Damn, I am making myself hungry!

LOL - I hear ya....yeah we've had an enormous amount of rain here in Hstd. lately. I forget what the sun looks like these days but when you're in LCS, it doesn't matter anyway :roflmao:

There are a ton of nurseries up and down Krome Ave., and if you haven't tried it, you ought to check out the Redland Rib House on Krome and 248th. Great BBQ 8-)

Yes, it's been quite rainy here in Homestead / Florida City area lately.
As you've heard, both El Toro Taco and Last Chance are still around, though I haven't heard of or seen the Redlands Tavern. Might have passed it but name doesn't seem to fit to a picture. But hope you have a good time, it's been pouring here nearly nonstop lately.

Let me know weather-wise what is expected in South Dade this weekend. If it is gonna be a washout, I really dont want to be schlepping through the nurseries in mud. That means I would have to spend more time in the eating and drinking establishments above mentioned.....not a bad alternative though.

LOL....All I've been hearing on local news so far is "scattered storms". I did hear this morning though that there's a better potential for rain Sunday depending on that tropical wave. I'm afraid it won't be the mud you're schlepping through, but rather the wall of mosquitos we have around here now

Thanks Canelaw. I can sympathize with you about the rain, as "drought" is not in the vocabulary here in SW Fla. anymore either. The mosquites we can handle as well, you got nothing up on us in that respect...we are surrounded by mangroves and the Hueys shut off the flow over protected areas which 99% are. So, many swat and the ones who eat alot of garlic are unphased. As far as the water is concerned, keep me abreast. if the situation warrants, I will catch an airboat at Coopertown and run the last ten miles on 41 to Krome. I'm coming no matter what. TheShrimper.
