We actually know exactly who is responsible and have reported it to his ISP. :-)

It's not the LowlyOne this time. The same type of attack was launched against Eastern last night. We know who it is and have taken action to report it to the ISP.

Well, good shot on spotting whoever. Let us know how it goes, as a sysad I am curious what response you get from the ISP. Its obviously a kid if they are using their own IP address to attack from, but my experience with ISP's of home users is usually less than optimal...it'd be nice to hear a "success" story..

As soon the folks at ISP work on it and do their thing we will let you and all know about the results.

Well, depending on the type of attack the person is using, there's a few
things s2k can do to protect itself.

It appears to be a denial of service attack, so I'd go to my border router
and block the ip address of the offending party. If that has to be an
entire range of IP addresses, then so be it.

I am so glad you are on to this person. I really hate it when I cannot get in the forum. I was going into withdrawal-LOL. Hope you get the problem fixed and the person responsible dealt with. Keep up the great work! :D

Just to update everyone, I spoke with the investigator at Comcast tonight. He now has the log files from our server and the chatroom that show without a doubt who was behind today's trouble. Anyone got a short rope and a tall tree? :-)

Thanks for everyone's patience today!

Marhsall - thanks for pushing this hard. These creeps need to feel the
"love" for the actions they take. With new laws in place, you might be able
to pursue criminal litigation.

I've requested that Comcast file a police report and I'm filing one in the morning referring to the Comcast incident number. At a minimum someone is in for a very bad couple of days ahead. :-)

I hope the person was at least a newbie. It would be sad to see someone who was here for a long time be that moronic. How do people think they can get away with this sort of stuff?

Not to mention how pointless it is to make it so others cannot gain access to a site. Wow, you can send lots of packets to storm2k and clog up their bandwidth. What a true mastermind.
