What did you get for Father's Day?

#1 Postby j » Mon Jun 20, 2005 8:04 am

I got a very unexpected present from my wife. No...its not what your thinking..

I got a gift certificate for a full body massage.

Now...I shall open the discussion about how men and women feel about another man or woman rubbing their hands all over your body, be it professional services or not.

First off, the masseuse is a young female, quite attractive, and womanly if you know what I mean. Initially, upon opening the certificate, I thought to myself...I can't do this. For me, the reason was obvious. I quickly found that my reaction was a sort of "no win" situation. Too much excuberance, might be taken the wrong way, too little (which was the direction I took) actually hurt my wife's feelings. My wife has actually had a massage from this woman, and I have met her at a pool party once. To my wife, it is strictly a therapeutical experience, get out the kinks, relax the tired and sore muscles. But to the "average" man, (if I may speak for the species), there are other thoughts that enter the mind. I know I'm not alone in this, as it has been a topic of discussion at the break table many times.

My wife says, "would you have been happier if I set it up with a man"? I told her I would have had to decline the gift if that had been the case. Sorry..but no man is going to rub his hands all over my body. Which of course prompted my wife to say, she has had woman give her a massage, and that one was even a Lesbian! Of course, my standard male response was, "But that's different". Woman are soft and feminine, and what the heck..they dance together, wouldn't think twice about applying suntan lotion to each other...the touchy thing is not a big deal.

Anyway...a rambling of thoughts here. I am resolved to getting the massage, and I intend to enjoy it, as my wife intended.

OK guys & girls...your thoughts?

OMG, j......well, she tried! Truly she gave you a gift she herself would have loved.

I am seriously trying to stop laughing here. Sorry, I will sober up.

That said, my guy would feel the same as you. Caught in the middle - female massueuse (similar thoughts as you had) or no to the male massuese (don't even bring that up!).

A good friend of ours has the sweetest wife in the world. She's a vegetarian, a free spirit type, soft spoken, never has an unkind word to say about anyone. After you're in her company for a while, you have the urge to whisper constantly and smile. And smile. Everything's so nicey-nice. You just want to curse or something. I can't be this nice, 24/7.....he he. My cheeks ache from smiling so much and having to be so pleasant with her. Hope that doesn't sound harsh. We do really like her though. Anyways, this wife gave her husband a massage for his BD. Had a limo pull up, pick him up, gave him champagne, and even a pedicure. Okay, pick yourself up off the floor now. Ya with me still? As all of this was being told, we kept looking over at her husband - a flannel, jeans kinda guy, who remodels their home in his spare time. A camping kinda dude. He went along with it all and said it was a nice gift. Meanwhile, Jim was giving me these looks like - if you EVER give me a gift like that.....LOL

I already know this would be an inappropriate gift for my husband. So the thought would never cross my mind.

Your wife was probably just trying to be nice j. Maybe you're too tense right now? After this gift idea, I can see why!

Next......I know you're gonna have a slew of responses today. CHAD, where are ya? Wait'll he sees this thread....he'll hop right on it and not on that massage table either!

The one thing I have learned from this, never give my guy a massage as a gift!

An oversize short-sleeve shirt and a pair of too-long "micro-fiber" pants.

I asked for a replica Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross w/Oakleaves.

I did, Mary...frankly, Debi would never obtain the services of a masseuse for me, even if it were "on doctor's orders".

She's great at meeting "needs", but hasn't a CLUE as to "wants". :larrow:

so.....what kind of conversation can I expect while I'm getting my massage?

Should we just talk about the first thing that comes up?

I don't know Eric, it might be hard to talk baseball while getting rubbed.

You're probably right...if she'd happen to be a Spankmes fan...she could end up getting angry and just take off!
