I just want to mention that if "BRET" becomes a hurricane it will be the first time since "BRET", 1999, that a "B" named storm reaches hurricane status. All the "B" storms from 2000 - 2004 have been tropical storms. Also, a curious point that I want mention, the last "B" name to be retired was Hurricane "BOB" in 1991, a long time ago.

Bret nearly did get retired if it had hit 30 miles N or S as a category 4 in 1999.

It's also interesting to note that the 1996-1999 "B" storms were all hurricanes. [Three of the four were cat. 3 or higher.] I suppose we'll *soon* find if the TS trend continues.
