5.6 is a "moderate" earthquake. It's not going to cause too much damage to structures... mainly broken glass etc.

The epicenter was VERY close to you in Temecula.

Deep means at the surface it wasn't as strong(the earth absorbs the shock).
If it was closer to the surface, it would have been stronger on the surface and likely longer.

Our local news says it felt stronger than it was because it was a shallow quake at only 8 miles deep....guess there is always conflicting stories....but from what I've heard in interviews and stuff from ppl in the epicenter, it did feel stronger, compared to a 6.0. Damage reports in so far are just mirrors and pictures knocked off walls and broken glass....NO DAMAGE here for us. Highway 74 has also hexperienced a rockslide on the highway, due to this earthquake...

I was thinking 8 miles was pretty shallow... the big Seattle quake back in 2001 was about 30 miles deep and they called it "really deep"(the shock was MUCH MUCH less than can be expected with a 6.8).

I got to sleep in today!
No shaking and rocking to wake me up this morning...lol
It appears that there are still aftershocks going off in and around, but nothing I have felt...
Though it was exciting to experience my first earthquake, and it was a nice sized one with very minimal damage, (what a combo!) I do hope that this is not something that we frequently experience...
Anyone here experience the Northridge quake??? Or one of such intensity?
