NWS Mobile Radar/Rain Sheild Not Moving West???

#1 Postby TampaFl » Sat Jun 11, 2005 10:39 am

Looking at the radar out of Mobile, if you look at the rain sheild that is trying to move into La. but it looks as though it has hit a block and is not progressing west   . Radar also appears to show Arlene maybe starting to move to the nne. Thoughts and comments welcomed.

That's what I was just looking at. To me, it looks like she's moving due north.

You are both correct! Arlene has been moving due north the past few hours. The center was near 29.7N/87.3W at 10:35am CDT. Here's a snapshot with obs plotted:

Argh... NWS level 3 feed is pretty bogged down at the moment. There must be a billion people trying to use it or something.

Here are a few more. One with radar, one with satellite. No evidence yet that Arlene is more than a 35kt tropical storm. Also, it seems to be moving due north toward Pensacola.

It really does look like she's hitting a roadblock.

She's surrounded by dry air, North is the only way to go.

Looks like she's getting swallowed by the dry air.

Gulfport MS is the dry air capitol of the world. It's not just hurricanes or tropical storms.Everything either fizzes out or goes around this place.I've seen severe t-storms get right to Gulfort and just die out.I've seen a line of severe weather get here and split in two,go around here and reform a solid line in Biloxi. Not just once but on numerous occasions.Something wrong with this town.

Right now on radar, it looks like the rain is being blocked by Hwy 49 in Mississippi all the way up to Hattiesburg. Not that Hwy 49 is ever a conduit of anything anyway, particularly traffic :D
