What about the Carribean?

#1 Postby skysummit » Sat Jun 11, 2005 9:35 am

Any models showing any signs of development with all the convection in the Carribean? Just curious to know if we'll have anything to look forward to next weekend.

There has been some mention in the AFD's in AL/GA/FL this week about possible development around Hispanola and then into the Eastern Gulf/Peninsula, but I've heard nothing more. There doesn't seem to be anything at the surface and it's close to big mountains, so development doesn't seem to be imminent. If something were to form and cross Hispanola it wouldn't survive because of the big mountains. It has a better chance in the Bahamas.

There seems to be a pretty interesting area south of Hati. Worth Watching.

In the next few days NOGAPS and GFS forecast a low pressure to develop near Jamaica and track northeastward toward eastern Cuba, central or eastern Bahamas and to the open Atlantic. GFS is the most aggressive of the two by intensifying the system to a powerful storm. Let see what happens and as always, trends should be watched.

The GFS spins up a little system and takes it northeast across eastern Cuba into the Bahamas in about four to five days.

The other models don't seem to see this however, at least not with the same level of enthusiasm.

Yes.

Well, let me amend that ... it would affect the Bahamas.

If it develops in the Caribbean it has the opportunity of crossing Cuba and/or the Bahamas as Bret, so it wouldn't be a fish.
