CUBA ???

If this turns out to be a new center and it continues north.. What affects will Cuba have on storm???? :?:

I dont think Western cuba has many montains-So it would have little no effect as its still surrounded by water IMHO-its eastern cuba with the Higher terrain.

Western Part of Cuba is flat so it will not fall apart.

I can think of the following storms that either maintained intensity, grew slightly stronger, or weakened JUST BARELY while crossing the Western tip of Cuba:

Irene 1999(crossed as a 75 mph hurricane, hit South Florida as a 75 mph hurricane). Passed just east of Havana

Isidore and Lili 2002

Charley and Ivan 2004

Yes it did weaken Charley a little.

The most important part of the topography of Pinar del Rio is "La Sierra de los Organos" or "Sierra of the Organs." The mountains are not tall but magnificent in their natural beauty. There you can see a clear map of Pinar del Rio, by the way, I lived my first 12 years of life in Guanajay, which you can see it in the Havana side of the map.
