Where does recon fly out of?

#1 Postby TreasureIslandFLGal » Thu Jun 09, 2005 2:36 pm

We thought we saw one of their planes the other night. - flying back towrds the north. Do they go out of Tallahassee? I remember they used to do some flights out of MacDill years ago.

Does the plane look like a big silver prop plane...4 props... with a red stripe around the body. -kinda looks like a real big coast guard plane?

NOAA - don't they run that flight?

I thought NOAA was in charge of those flights? -if not, what do their planes do then? I remember during Andrew they were taking off all the time to check on that storm. (I was stationed there at the time)

Air Force Reserve flies the recon flights. NOAA flies research flights.

Since Andrew was quite a beast, they probably wanted to collect as much data as they could.

When a big hurricane is threatening land, recon is continous. I think it's 3 hour fixes which essentially means a plane is in there at all times.
