I like the shaded map. Very intuitive.

My main quibble would be with your labelling of "tropical waves" 1, 2 and 3. Disturbance number 1 is not associated with a tropical wave - it's a subtropical low which developed in association with a trough - although it appears to be taking on more tropical charcteristics. Number 2 is indeed associated with a tropical wave. Not entirely sure about number 3. TPC doesn't have a wave in that area, but it doesn't mean there isn't one - that region is pretty sparse for data.

I'd suggest just calling them "disturbances" instead - a nice broad generic term.

Just an update, fairly strong winds and gusts associated with a thunderstorm cluster have moved into Western Collier County, heavy rain has begun to fall...wow, looks like Frances outside...seriously...i'm not exxageratting, stuff is hitting the garage door...wow..

I will say that it is much windier today than it was yesterday here in PB county. Much Windier. Does anyone know where I can buy wind measuring equipment locally and fairly inexpensively?

Hey - you may want to look into training/education careers as well. Someone with the talent and skills to create such an informative graphic and the knowledge to organize and convey the key points in such an interesting manner would be like gold in this field! It's also fun because you could focus on one or many areas of interest to you and learn something new everyday about weather, science, or whatever...

I wish I had my vid camera with me about an hour ago when I took I-4 eastward home from International Drive, Orlando. It was windy and raining so hard you could hardly see the brake lights in front of you (thought we could beat the clouds home, but we got here all the same at 5 to 15 mph).

If this is the harbinger of what's to come over the next 2-3 days, I'm staying put.

We have had 3 peroids of rain here in Plantcity ..Very heavy tropical rain the 1in - 2in a hour type and still lots to come. Even if it does't track into west coast of Florida, It is already affecting it and I fear some flooding issues down the road.....

Hi Kevin,

The graphics are magnificent! One thing popped out-perhaps reverse your color scheme for areas of development? The orange areas stand out the most against the map and there is an association with orange/red with 'danger' or 'attention!'. Orange for the areas with the greatest chance of development and red for already named systems, with blue for the areas of least interest may be more intuitive.

Just an idea. Great work!!

I like the map. The one thing that could underdo the peninsula is if the storm continues to track mostly northward and you see a training band developing like the one south of cuba right now. Something like that aligned due N/S could be dumping extremely heavy rains for a period of nearly an entire diurnal pulse.

Dry as a bone here in Palm Beach County.
Seems like when a system passes west of Key West, we get a lot of warnings of excessive rain here in PBC and get nothing.
Charley was like that.
Gusty winds and absolutely no rain; at least here in Lake Worth.
Of course, Frances and Jeanne made up for it later......
