I think its due to 'more' awearness since last years fun. Just wait if S. Fl threatend this year.... they will have 24 hour coverage once the 5 day cone covers us
One of the things they've repeatedly said is that even after last year, people *still* aren't preparing ahead of time. I'm not exactly sure what they can do to motivate people, but people need to start taking responsibility for themselves and get prepared early. The problem is, blowing things out of proportion this early in the season is probably going to backfire on them... people will hear all the reports, and see just a little rain, and not take the warnings later in the season as seriously as they should.

You think a Cat 5 bearing down on Miami would motivate them? Sheesh. I wonder about some people.
They don't realize that Frances was a 2 and Jeanne was a 3. A 4 or a 5 would have been much worse. Charley was VERY small.

if that is the case than all they are doing is causing complacency. Incredible.

Happens every year, sad to say... Never overestimate the publics collective memory... if it's more than a month old, it's promptly forgotten about.

The people here for Andrew definently remember. There's just so many people (myself included) that have moved here since then. I've learned a lot from my Andrew survivor friends about how to prepare for the worst.

I think it comes down to a lot of things. Poor memory is one.
I often ask other people if they would stay if a Category 4 or 5 were headed to Lafayette. They laugh and say, "Lili was a 4 and we made it!"
I can't believe how stupid people are. Lili hit us at a Category 1 and it did a good bit of damage around here. Let a Cat. 4 or 5 come hauling in here and I bet we see trees everywhere.
People just think if they made it through one they can make it through them all.
And more people will mean lady about being stuck in 12 hours of traffic trying to escape New Orleans from Ivan, but if Ivan would have hit New Orleans.... WOW.
