Didn't suprise me at all. They fixed a vortex...it's 1003-1004 mb...it's tropical...it's winding up and will most probably develop...so you might as well call it earlier than later. After all...if you fix a vortex you have a center and that meets the text-book definition of a tropical cyclone....although it's not a text-book classic definition...the convection is organized (which is really more about "hang around" factor than anything else).

Matter of fact...I would have been more shocked if they did not upgrade with a vortex.

Now...if you want to examine mysteries...explain TS Grace from '03. Leonard Nimoy could do a brand new "In Search Of" regarding that one.

Grace was by far the most shocking naming I had ever seen. I was caught completely off-guard by that one.

Sometimes I think they wait way to long to name Depressions. I guess the calling of a DP is a hard business. But heck its not like they are using up a name if this thing falls apart.

Basically a boundary with all the wind and rain(and the wind was pretty pathetic) to the east of this line. There was absolutely nothing circular or remotely cyclonic about it. It came ashore somewhere between Corpus Christi and Houston as barely a tropical storm(may have even been a depression).

I was wondering if it was the storm several years back to the east of the lesser Antilles that the NWC initialized as a 50 mph TS (no TD phase). Satellite looked HORRIBLE on it, and sure enough if fell apart the next day. I always thought the NWC was continuing to issue advisories on it and fabricating a LLC to save face.

Sure they did . They are a government agency. But hey.. what harm was done. Its when a TD is off the coast of the USA and they say nothing and a hapless unaware person goes swimming at the beach and drowns because of a strong undertow created by the storm. Thats what ticks me off. If said victim knew a TD was formed he would have stayed home.
