Reminder, "Season of Suspense" on TWC

#1 Postby Anonymous » Sat Jun 04, 2005 8:58 am

I know I would be upset if I missed it, so I figured I could remind anyone who did not know.

The Weather Channel will air a special Storm Stories called "Season of Suspense" that will take a look back at the intense hurricanes of the 2004 Hurricane Season.

Airing Sunday, June 5th at 8pm Eastern/7pm Central

Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore to broadcast live from the beach
June 4, 2005
The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore will be broadcasting live from Pensacola Beach on Sunday as part of the channel's Hurricane Week next week.

Last year will be remembered as the costliest hurricane season ever. Even as some are still recovering, the 2005 hurricane season is upon us.

To help draw awareness to the season and the importance of storm preparation, The Weather Channel is presenting Hurricane Week, a special programming event.

Hurricane Week kicks off at 7 a.m. Sunday with live reports throughout the day from veteran meteorologist Cantore on-location in Pensacola.

The live coverage will culminate at 7 p.m. with "Season of Suspense," a new, one-hour program with Cantore as host. The program will feature a 2005 hurricane season outlook from hurricane expert Dr. Steve Lyons.

"Season of Suspense" spotlights compelling stories from last year's hurricane season. Some highlights:

· The harrowing tale of a couple who are trapped in the attic of their home on Pensacola Bay by the rising water during Hurricane Ivan.

· A hurricane chaser and photographer's story of his ordeal pinned in the streets of Punta Gorda by the ferocity of Hurricane Charley.

· The story of dozens of terrified evacuees who ride out the storm in a baseball stadium as Hurricane Frances brings the park's light poles crashing to the ground.

· The story of a group of women and their dedication to rebuilding the home of a mother of three who was left homeless by Hurricane Ivan.

The rest of Hurricane Week will feature episodes of "Storm Stories" each night. At 7 p.m. Monday, "Storm Stories" will feature Grande Lagoon.

Pensacola Beach has made some headway but it still has a way to go. There are still portable toilets set up for public use since all the public toilets and showers got washed away. There's nothing worse than waiting in line on a hot day at the beach to use a hot, smelly port-a-potty. On a more positive note there are shops and restaurants that have recovered nicely.

Any one watch the broadcast last night? I was a little disappointed...thought they would focus more on the hurricanes. They added a lot of other things that took away from the special. The other problem I had was they only concentrated on certain areas. I live in central Florida and we had quite a bit of damage from all 3 hurricanes not including the piece of Ivan that came back and got us. There was no coverage on that.

That is what the NHC put in the preliminary report.

I was a little disappointed at the show last night. I'm hoping tonights show will be better. From what I understand it should be as it will be about Ivan and Grand Lagoon.

I thought last night was kinda boring. I will miss it tonight because I don't get off work until 9 p.m. I won't even walk through my front door until at least 9:30. But, I got the New Orleans special Eye on Hurricanes taping tonight.

There was some impressive footage during the Charley segment last night, but overall I didn't feel like it was anything "special". Maybe it will improve as the week progresses.

They need more hurricane photographers

#17 Postby chigger11 » Mon Jun 06, 2005 4:12 pm

My wife has agreed to up our life insurance substantially and will allow me to follow canes this year and photograph them. I think she is joking but after seeing the weak material TWC had, I think I could make a lot of money doing it, if I survive. On a more serious note, I live 2 blocks a way from the stadium that lost its light poles. The morning after Frances, I was very surprised to see that 80 or 90 mph gusts brought them down. It was quite a site indeed. Good to see the new ones will withstand 140mph winds. With that stadium only 3.5 miles inland I think they should have upped the strength but oh well.

Once again TWC has failed to deliver. This Storm Stories, much like all others, was just a bunch of sob stories and dramatizations with only minimal material that weather enthusiasts can appreciate.
