On previous TWC thread here at S2K, someone mentioned they were surprised another weather channel hasn't started up. We all keep hoping TWC will get back to it's roots - weather and cease all these what I call 'fluff pieces' - Storm Stories/Allergy Alerts/Home Improvement segments. Oh yeah, the Gardening info segments too. Hello, there's a channel called HGTV for these interests. Guess TWC isn't in the know.

Now I think that S2K member was onto something. Instead of hoping TWC will wise up, let's just hope another, very reputable weather cable channel starts up.

Think about it - TWC doesn't have ANY competition! While so many other cable channels do.

I ABSOLUTELY HATE the garden segments and the freaking "How to work a ceiling fan"(I remember those from many years ago when I actually liked TWC, before the internet) :grr:

Brent - my family can't believe I'm not a faithful viewer of TWC anymore. They all know I'm a wx nut but now I get so much more wx info on the internet, than I ever received watching TWC. Of course when I explain how far TWC has deviated from actual wx updates, my family thinks I've really lost it. LOL So I can only discuss my disgust with TWC, with you all. They don't get it. They think one weather channel is enough. And almost too much!

I used to leave TWC on for background noise all the time. Now, I tune in probably once or twice a month. If we have severe weather heading our way, I hit the internet, and not TWC's website, either.

They have tried to become too much to too many in order to score the largest audience, and in the process, dumbed themselves down to the lowest common denominator.

I like your nic, totally off subject though. Is your first name by any chance, Harry?

TWC is now more like "The home and garden channel, with occasional weather".

Maybe they will hire Martha Stewart next.

Oh Lord no. My first name is quite feminine :) but so many variations of "hurricane" were already taken, that's the best I could come up with. Thanks for the compliment!

That's Beelzebubbette to you, pal.

So back to TWC: is there any place to find viewership trends over the years for them? I could imagine that for every aggravated weather weenie that tunes out, three more non-weenies tune in for the soap-opera quality: WHO will get pregnant next? Isn't Cantore fine? WHAT heartache and human frailty will the next Storm Story involve?

This thread has turned out to be quite comical. And HurryKane, you might be dubbed your other nic from now on (if I can remember how to type/spell it!!!). Sorry for the gender confusion, just thought HurryKane was clever. I was almost Hail Mary but a good friend from my former TWC Chat Room days dubbed me Miss Mary, a long, long time ago, back when TWC was the TWC we all miss today.

LOL at the OCM's preggie jokes. It's true though - babies were popping up like crazy on that channel for a while there. Those OCM's had way too much time off huh? LOL Seriously though, if they'd hire OCM's above the age of say 40-45 the pregnancy rates might go down a bit. That's what happens folks when you hire young female, married OCM's!

Finally, had to laugh at the Jim Cantore looking 'fine' comment. I have fallen into that category, I will confess.

I agree, the OCM's should be busy....forecasting the weather for us instead of jibber-jabbering about nonsense that has nil to do with weather.

Oh, you should have stuck with Hail Mary! As a good little lapsed Catholic (and football fan) I sure would have appreciated the joke :)

Alright Miss Beezlebubbette - say that fast, 10x now - LOL.....Hail Mary was another nic a fellow TWC chatter gave me. I just always used Mary in the chat room, my real name. Which my kids found so boring.....LOL Guess it did need to be doctored up a bit. When I joined TWC boards, Mary was taken. So I tossed around both the Miss and Hail parts. Being a good Catholic then myself, have fallen by the wayside lately, I thought it would be somewhat sacriligious (sp?) to go with HM. MM has stuck ever since. Confuses people though, they think I'm from the South..... I'm a born and bred Cincinnatian!

Hey we could call you Miss Bee for short? Unless of course that reminds you too much of Bee from the Andy Griffith show....he he.

Speaking of Cantore, did you read an indepth article about him last year? His children have lifelong medical conditions....forgive me right now, forget what they are. His wife was a carrier. She's ill too. He seems so devoted to his family, which made me respect him even more. He rose way above that hunk status when I read that article. It's archived somewhere here, on the Tropics board from last summer.

I am so over them. Seems like all they have is commercials. I mentioned last year during the hurricanes, they had the worst of anyone. The Orlando met blew them away.

Yes, I did. I used to think he was kind of arrogant until I read that. Now I know he has good reason to be ;)
