Steve Lyons
He made his first 2005 season tropical update at 2:50 PM EDT.As usual very little time for him to talk about the tropics around 1 minute and a half.I hope that TWC expands the duration of the tropical updates I say to at least 3 minutes.About the GOM he said nothing about development there. He mainly talked about the typhoon in the Western Pacific.

I really think that TWC should have a daily 30 minute tropical update whenever hurricanes are active anywhere near the U.S. in order to have a more detailed discussion so citizens can plan accordingly. Not enough info is made available to the public in the 2 minute tropical updates. This would be a public service more than anything, and a lot of people would watch it.

Does it even deserve to be called "The Weather Channel?" I mean, they have a little weather here and there, then they talk about gardening and cleaning the house, and plenty of commercials.
On the other hand, I think Crapmospheres perished a rather miserable death. Though I have admitted to liking some episodes of Storm Stories, I agree that it's run its pace.

I'll give you an example of how frustrating they can be. The other day I was planning softball practice, so I turned on the TWC to look at the Radar. Well when I turned it on they had one of their shows on, and never got to see the radar. That is so frustrating. I don't always have time to log on the computer. It seems like they have everything but the Weather on there.

One thing I thought TWC should have...that would probably mean that I would still watch it (I don't)...is a METCON. As a met...I like METCONS. What a METCON is...is a meteorological discussion; a detailed discussion about the current situation...whether it is hurricanes or severe wx/snow...etc. They could call it "For Meteorologists" and it could last for say...5 minutes. The main reason I do not watch TWC is because they do not offer me anything I can't get somewhere else...better. I can get sat pics that are more current now...recon...etc. If they were to just act like meteorologists for a few minutes...maybe I would watch.
I do realize, however, that I am not their target audience...and that as a business....you need to reach your target. The target is people who know nothing or very little about the weather. As many people here can attest (whether you are promets or proams)...once you get some weather forecasting skill...and learn to get the data yourself...TWC becomes very trivial...and a drain on your valuable time....and really doesn't add to your knowledge of the current situation...especially in tropical weather. I mean...I love Steve Lyons as a person. He was one of my profs at Texas A&M back in the 80's...before he went to the NHC....but he tows the party line coming from the NHC and rarely adds any of his own insight. That insight...and I can tell you from personal experience watching him forecast storms...like Gilbert in '88 (which the NHC blew chunks...btw)...and others...that insight is extensive...but it is being muzzled by the producers for fear of going against the party line.
Just my 2 cents.

I always enjoyed when Cantore or Rich Johnson was on air. They really have a passion and make they're presentation exciting. During the evenings Cantore will still do updates on current severe weather etc. and still shows that zeal that appeals to those with better understanding of weather than normal public. I hope he is on more frequently when Steve Lyons isn't doing updates. They really struggle with their tropical updates when many of their regular OCMs do the updates with a few exceptions.

Agree 100% with Jim Cantore.I would wish to see him doing the tropical updates more than Dr Lyons because he imparts plenty of grafics and explanations when he shows up.

My problem is it airs too much. It's fine if there's very little weather to talk about, but there have been countless times in the last couple of years when there's a major weather event(Blizzard, Tornado Outbreak, Hurricane) and what is TWC running? Storm Stories. It's the equvalent of one of the cable news channels running a documentary during a big news story. It's absurd.

I can remember last year when we were under the gun (which time I lost track) Steve came on and was going into detail and on comes the background music for storm stories. This is 8:00 prime time with a cat 3 bearing down.
The reason for this is obviously, people out of harms way complain that they talk to much about the hurricanes. I its Dec and its a blizzard, I would understand.
