They will be talking about New Orleans' evacuation routes and asking the question "who will evacuate". They also will have someone from Emergency Prepardness (I think) interviewed. (Someone important....I just can't remember who)
Anyway.....9:00 - 11:00 a.m., 870AM New Orleans (June 1)

You can't pick up 870AM in Galveston? I know you can hear it near the La/Tx state line. I used to live in eastern AL, and I could pick it up there (appx. 390 miles)
Ooops...nevermind. I just saw.....Galveston, OH.

Nope, I'm in Galveston, TX. But in the hospital, it's hard to pick up radio and cell phone signals. Too much interference from other things. In certain areas, if you hold your left little toe just right, you can get A station or two. But it's not easy.

Just heard on the show....
According to this year's evac plan, Lafourche Terrebonne (my area), Plaqumines, St. Bernard Parish, and the suburbs south of the city will start evacuating 50 hours prior to TS force winds. They say it will take at least 50 hours to evacuate the entire area.
There will be 11 lanes exiting New Orleans on the interstate. During a normal day with no traffic or weather, they can get 18,000 cars out an hour.

Do you evacuate for Hurricanes, skysummit? We never did. My mom and dad wanted us all the evacuate last year with the threat of Ivan. But, they ended up going back and forth, and we stayed at home. We never once actually left for a storm threat. Even though, my mom always panics and begs my dad to leave.

Many people called in and just let them know what different areas were like. They were the best during Evacuation for Ivan.
Who Agrees?
Their unrivaled event coverage, combined with their blowtorch transmitting wattage (I've picked up "The Big 870" in Ft. Myers Beach, FL on occasion with no problem) is why WWL is one of the designated state emergency management stations.

Yeah, I heard the guy from DOTD on the Spud McConnell show on my drive into work. The 50-hour concept looks good on paper, but when you consider, at t-minus 50 hours ETA, how far a distance a potential SE Louisiana landfalling storm can be before the first tropical storm-force winds effect the coast, I think in some situations you're going to have a tough time convincing quite a few people, especially in light of the Georges and Ivan fiascos, that it's time to pack up and head north. Unfortunately, the two poor "dress rehearsals" we've had aren't going to help matters any.
