People down here don't take much action because we dodged so many bullets. People seem to think we will never actually get hit. Our last real threat was Andrew nearly 13 years ago. And even though we 25 miles east of the eye and experienced 100 mph winds, we only had minor damage here. Betsy was the last storm that put us in the eyewall and that was 40 years ago. And most of us including me, were not even born to witness the disaster that Betsy truely caused.
Yep, that is how everyone here felt. Donna was the last hurricane to hit us, over 40 years ago, so everyone was very complacent. Three hurricanes later, the attitudes have changed somewhat.
We are pretty much doing what we do every year, with the exception of far more gasoline on hand. We already had a generator, which was used extensively last year, and was worth it's weight in gold. The added gasonline is to remedy the one flaw in our thinking coming into the season last year. I had always figured that three days worth of gas for the generator was sufficient which was a major blunder. We now have 10 days worth on hand. If we don't need it, no biggy, we'll just use it up after the season.
