urgent - immediate broadcast requested Severe Thunderstorm Watch number 184 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 730 PM CDT Tue Apr 29 2003

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

Western Iowa northwest Missouri southern and eastern Nebraska

Effective this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 730 PM until 200 am CDT.

Hail to 2 inches in diameter... thunderstorm wind gusts to 55 mph... and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is along and 145 statute miles east and west of a line from 65 miles north of Omaha Nebraska to 50 miles west southwest of Beatrice Nebraska.

Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.

Discussion... elevated thunderstorms/supercells with hail expected to develop/intensify over ww area during the next few hours as low level jet/moisture influx infcrease above shallow cool dome. Ample elevated cape /on the order of 1500-2000 j/kg/ and cloud layer shear /around 30 kts/ should be present to support sustained updrafts given steep mid level lapse rates already present over region.

Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to 2 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 50 knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm motion vector 26030.
