most here know me, about the enter graduate school at UM-RSMAS. 22 years old.

For me, hurricanes are a pure science. I am far more interested in the dynamics of a tropical cyclone, as well as quanitifiable research than I am in following it across the Atlantic (which does not excite me in the least bit any more, except when new research ideas can come about -- typically pertaining to RI)

Hey everyone, I'm Justin, 35 years old. I grew up in Trinidad/Tobago, went to Meteorology school in Barbados, moved to Toronto Canada in 1994 where I am forever known as "the white kid" from the caribbean by all my friends. (Hence the nickname tropicana... half tropical/ half canadian).
Like a lot of people who have posted before, my interest in Meteorology dates back to when I was 10, holidaying in South Florida and big bad DAVID came threatening back in September 1979. Ever since that day, I've never lost interest in weather, acquiring now 25 years of personal weather data. I have worked 6 years at the International Airport in Trinidad for the weather services there...currently my career is more sales/administration and nothing to do with the weather.

A day isn't complete without updating my records. I have extensive personal weather data that I keep, I thrive and thirst for the weather, my family call me a weather nut, but I've been called worse so it's like water off a duck's back. I've never experienced a major hurricane personally, but I have been through many memorable tropical storms (and numerous snowstorms for that matter..the 2 don't compare) over the years.

I have a special interest during Hurricane season, there is an air of excitement like no other time of the year.

I look forward to another interesting season and getting to know you all more and more.

Hi My name is john i am 33 and not a met by any means but i have been very interested in the weather since i was 12. Especially tropical weather and living here in Florida all my life the weather here can become very interesting at times found this web site a few years ago and i have been addicted to the storm2k ever since especially during hurricane season . Learn something new all the time here thanks everyone here on storm2k.

Guess I'm the Grandma of the bunch. I will celebrate the 26th anniversary of my 39th birthday in July. I am retired and find the internet a great way to further my education. Found this site just about the start of season last year and now I'm hooked. I do not always understand all I read on this board but I sure try.

Andy here...about to turn 25 in 2 weeks - graduated from Purdue in 2002 with a Bachelors in Meteorology, went on to complete my Master's coursework in atmospheric science, but started working in the real world 3 months ago before finishing my thesis (will I ever finish...who knows?). I've been addicted to severe weather of all types ever since I can remember, which is what lead to a career in this field. I currently work for Weather Central, Inc., a rapidly expanding company in Madison, WI that specializes in broadcasting software (the pretty graphics you see when you watch the weather segment on your local news). I've been an addict of Storm2K ever since I found the site when Charley was a wee baby down in the Caribbean last season.

I do like to watch the weather (literally) especially hurricanes and lightning. I like to come to this site to see what's going on weatherwise, and I really love to read predictions you guys make!

I'm a 42 year old homeschooling mom of two that really got interested in tropical weather when I moved to North Myrtle Beach in 1985. When I started working for the police Dept. in 1987, I really got to experience hurricanes up close, Hugo being the first one. I don't know or understand all the weather terms, but thanks to this board, I am slowly learning quite a lot. You guys and gals are great, and very patient with us novices, and I just want to say thanks.

I'm 39 years old and nobody special either :lol:

Been living in Florida for the past 10 years and never worried about hurricanes until Charley's 'wake up' call last August which landed in my town.

Ever since then, I have develop a tremendous interest in hurricanes. Thanks to this board, I am learning and still have 'tons' to learn!

Hi Everyone! I can't believe we're less than a month away from season!

Like mf_dolphin, I also turn 49 this year (ok, this MONTH :sad:

), I'm female and a native Floridian. I was born in Miami, but have lived most of life on the Central East coast. The first hurricane I remember going through was Donna in 1960 and it scared (and fascinated) the hell out of me.

Five generations of my family currently live on the coasts of Florida, including the panhandle, and since I'm the middle generation, I feel responsible for many of them. Last year, I felt like a ball in a pinball machine racing all over the state trying to get everyone somewhere safe.

I know nothing about predicting weather, but I do watch for crabs crossing A1A :eek:

and know that our worse seasons have usually followed unusually hot Spring weather. :wink:

Looking forward to talking to everyone this year.

Well I have been around s2k for many years now and it is home away from home! So many good, wonderful people here - it becomes a second family.
Fromerlly from Texas, I was brought to s2k when we had decided to move to Florida years ago. My love of the beauty, tranquility and the fury of the ocean here on the east coast helped us to decide one day it would be home. I would follow mother natures wonders in the tropics - through all her glory and fury! I don't know a lot about the weather but know this is where I can come to get accurate information.

I have loved following weather since I can remember - just a special attraction to hurricanes though. Tornados were fairly common where we lived before and they were fascinating, but so terrifying as well. Never knowing when and where they might strike, unlike a hurricane which has advance notice!

I would like to thank those here at S2K that make it such a special place for all to come and for sharing their vast knowledge with us all. And especially Chad and Marshall for making it possible!

Well after reading all of the posts I feel like I might be at a s2k anonymous meeting....hehehehehe we are all addicted!

I am 49 and counting...till September when I will be able to joint AARP, oh man I can't wait...yea right...

I was born and raised in Moss Point/Pascagoula Mississippi and living on the coast all my life the importance and need to know about hurricanes has been important to everyone here. My first memories of a storm is when I was very small, don't even know the name, just knew that my parents were scared and we headed to Hattiesburg...then my real memories of Camille are all to well etched in my brain. I found this site a couple of years ago and lurked for a long time then got the courage to actually post a few things...

now I'm working on catching up with Lindaloo...hehehehe, doubt that will happen!

I too appreciate all the wonderful information provided by the members here and when I want to know about what is going on I sign on here...our local news is very lacking and my confidence in them is about zero.

I will say that I have never had a negative response to any questions I have asked (well maybe some didn't agree with me in the Political Forum, but that is the place to do it, right?) so I feel very welcome here.

Thanks to Chad and Marshall for all the new things they have added and for keeping this going for all of us!

Hi all.....guess I'm one of the older ones (58). I'm originally from Holland. My parents immigrated to Tallahassee, because my mother liked the sound of that name. Went through hurricane Kate, and without electricity for 8 days....that got me hooked on hurricanes. I found this site 3 years ago and finally decided to join, and just donated. I have a boy and a girl and 2 grandsons. My better half is an ole Trucker so I decided years ago to get a computer to keep me busy. Been loving it ever since, and loving Storm2K.

I remember last year, we seemed to wait forever for something to happen, and then WHAM, what a season.

Hello everyone, I'm Bill. I'm 33 yrs old and a father of four. Ages 5,6,7 and 11. I live in southeast Louisiana, some forty miles from the water. I've always been a weather freak. Not much on benign weather, but when it gets severe I get excited. Have been following storms since I was a young lad of 13. When I experienced my first hurricane, which was Elena in 1985. It was quite an experience. We were without power for seven days. I live in a rural area and we were last on the list I suppose. Anyway there's no better rush than storm watching in my opinion. Its great. I hate to see anyone lose their home and/or property, but to watch the power of mother nature is just awesome.

Hi all. Live in boynton beach area (south florida)--professor at Fla Atlantic University. I work in the theatre program, and became addicted going through three of these last year, and trying to keep the theatre from loosing everything.

I work for a private weather provider (not AccuWeather :-)

) in Houston, TX. Was out riding my mountain bike a few weeks aro and realized that I had forgotten how old I was. For the past year, I thought I was 48, but after a quick recalculation it turns out I'm only 47.

Grew up in south Louisiana and remember going though Hilda and Betsy in '64 and '65, outer parts of Camille in '69, and Carmen in '74. My mother taught me to track hurricanes when I was 4 and I've been hooked ever since going through Hilda in '64.

Got my BS in meteorology and moved to Houston in 1980. Went through the center of Alicia in '83. For those of you in Houston that went through Alicia, it was just a tropical storm across most of Harris County with winds of 45-55 mph and some gusts to hurricane force. You won't believe what a real Cat 3 will do next time one hits near Galveston.

For legal reasons, I like to remain anonymous here as far as my employer. You can find me at the Houston/Galveston hurricane conference on the 26th of May. We'll peobably be the only weathe rprovider there. Just come on up and say you're with Storm2k. I'll tell whomever I"m there with to lookout for S2K members. I'll also be at the Florida Governor's hurricane conference next week. We'll be exhibiting on Wednesday and Thursday.

Perhaps I'll see you there.

An official Old Codger as I turned 65 last year. I'm a retired Meteorologist though I still keep my hand in on the weather boards and on my homepage. Have 33 years forecast experience with 8 of those in the Philippines where I went through four typhoon eye passages and quite a number of them passing close by. Only one hurricane brushby while I was in VA but I'm willing to bet that I am one of a very few on this Board to have ever experienced an EPAC storm of Tropical Storm intensity here in the US (two of them in fact).

I had to chime in as well. My introduction can be read in the next Storm2k newsletter.......meet the members section. I felt it was time to become a more active member. It all started back at Storm 97 over at Lowes. Many of us are still here and that what make Storm2k special.

I was wondering if I was the only one here from Storm 97, glad to hear others are still here!. I did like their kind of delayed chat board, it was fun while it lasted. Anyway, I am the Controller for a graphic arts company. My hobby is any kind of severe weather. I am also a certifed skywarn spotter and amateur radio operator.

Howdy. I am David. I hail from North Cenral Floriduhh, the home of bad drivers, Nascar, and voters who leave chads.

Seriously, I am 46 years old, a graduate mathematician, and have had a lifelong interest in weather. I was in the USAF for Desert Storm and the reserves. I do not have formal Met training, but have a PhD in applied math, and specialize in probability theory. I own my own computer business, and travel to the Florida-Georgia-Alabama area fairly often. Also, I am a Georgia Dawgs fan, due to my birth in Atlanta, and my having attended UGA for grad school. I have a 23 year old son, who is my pride and joy.
