Gulf of Mexico Blobs

The same blob that developed yesterday west of Florida has redeveloped and heading Southwest for Mexico

40 to 50 knots of shear in the BOC - that'll kill anything that tries to pop.

although i havent researched this recently, i dont believe any tropical systems have formed in the GOM/BOC in may since the beginning of the reanalysis period, 1851 to present....of course, nothing lies like climatology :roll: ......rich

That's an area to watch, but shear will kill it. Still interesting that a blob exists out there.

Yeah, there's 40-50kt of shear in that area. It's just way too early for BoM development...

Too much shear, however the SSTs are plenty warm enough. They are running in the low 80s down there. If the shear would let up I would say we could see something. What's the shear forecast look like for this area over the next 24 hours? :eek:

Shear forecasts show some slight weakening, maybe down to 25-35kt. Still plenty strong for development.

If you look on the maps on my 1st post of the topic, more blobs are are developing west of Florida. They're getting more intersting everyday.

See CYC's thread about the Models "developing" something.. The low off to the east of Florida under all this convection will cross florida and then some of the models see "something" More then likely nothing though...
