Is Florida really in trouble???

It seems to me that several months ago the talk of the Hurricane season was about the possibility of Florida getting slammed again. Now, in the past few days, it seems like the focus may be more towards Texas, Lousiana. Is this a correct observation or am I mis-reading??

Depends on whos posts you read. The only true statement is "everybody in Hurricane Alley needs to be ready". Florida may not get a single storm or it may get hammered...same with texas, LA ,Miss and the Carolina's. It's a guessing game until the season starts and the patterns align..if they do. After last year..I am ready and so should the entire GOM region and east coast!!!! The only certain statement when it comes to tropics is PREPARE for the worst and hope for the BEST!!!!!

Dont do what I did and say, "we have had one already, another cant come this way"... I think I said that maybe 3 times last season So yeah, make sure you stock up early and re-stock soon after your supplies have been used.

Don't believe anything you read on a message board about hits on your or any state in March. There are plenty of "Which storm will be the big one this year" threads or "Which area is going to pay the ultimate price." Take them all with a grain of salt. It's nothing but amateur speculation (and something to talk about).

I'm going to add, dont listen to anything private companies say either...*cough* Accuweather...*cough* stick only with the NHC (hurricanes obviously) and the NWS (for severe weather and more fine tuned versions of what the NHC says, they are more locally set then just the advisory themselves...)

The last time the PDO went cool-phase and the Atlantic heated up, there was a tremendous increase in major hurricane landfalls in Florida (12 landfalls in 25 years vs. 2-3 per 25 years when the Atlantic was cool). The current pattern may well persist for another 15-25 years. With a similar SST pattern in both the Atlantic and Pacific to what was observed from 1944-1976, one might expect a similar steering pattern to set up, as the SSTs govern the position of the Azores-Bermuda high to some extent.

So, yes, if you're in Florida, you'd better make sure your preparations are in order. Your chances of a major hurricane landfall are likely a bit higher than other areas of the U.S. Coast.

You also might take note of the date of the original post. It was in April of "2005", well before the unfolding of last year's c-r-a-z-y outcome...

Since then, a lot of water has gone under the bridge (pun intended) and a lot of learning has taken place. Perhaps that same member might not ask a similar question "this" year...

If you live anywhere from Texas to Florida and from Florida up to Maine, you need to be ready, you need to start now, better to be safe then sorry, Hurricanes are doing things that we've never seen them do, everyone is at risk and the time to prepare is now. Especially North Carolina and Floridas east coast, who may, if patterns follow forcasts, be under fire.

Bottom line is to not make the mistake that millions have made, be safe, not dead

Come on... you know that not all private companies are as bad as accuwx. NWHHC sure is not like Accwx and the record clearly indicates as such
