My vote:
Drag icebergs down from one of the poles and place them thoughout the Atlantic and Caribbean chilingl the ocean so they can't form lol.
Any other ideas welcome!

Yah, and if we tried to destroy hurricanes forever, then we'd just have some other natural disasters to worry about. In fact, I recall once hearing that destroying hurricanes would end one war but might start several more. Something similar to that degree anyway.
Destroying hurricanes is impractical. I wish we didn't have hurricanes, but we do, it's a fact of life. We can only prepare for them.

the thin ocean layer likely won't work due to the wave action, also, part of whateevr would be evaporated in all liklihood, meaning the heat content from the ocean would still be fluxed into the storm.
Only way I could think of, and this would be to create convergence about 100km or greater from the eye. This may enable the creation of a secondary eye wall farther out than would normally be expected; thus, the storm would weaken more during th eye wall replacement cycle than normal

Yeah I do to, that's why I ended my comment with a LOL. That is the dumbest thing I have heard of. For god sake people, do you really think towing icebergs into the Atlantic Ocean is going to help. No f*cking way...there's too much water to cover and it would be more expensive than taking that money and using it to recover the costs of a landfalling major hurricane! Even if we pulled it off, there would be major global climatic ramifications and marine life would suffer greatly....I am totally opposed to the idea..

I remember there was a guy back in the '80s some time who was going on about building towers (kind of like the cooling towers at a nuclear plant, but several miles tall) along the coast. His idea was that convection driven by solar heating of the towers would change the steering paterns and keep storms off the coast.
Somehow, I don't think he appreciated just how much energy there is in the atmospheric system.
My immediate thought was what happens when the first major storm comes along and knocks a few of those towers down on top of some suburbs.

Just think if there were no hurricanes, I wouldn't be chatting with you right now about this...lol...Why don't we send a bunch of U.S. military planes and some large fan generators. We'll hang them from below the planes. This would essentially generate the wind sheer that would be needed to thwart development. lol.

I've heard more stupid things.
(Actual things I've heard)
-Ask the aliens to beam the hurricanes up or destroy them with their laser weapons.
-Drag a giant curtain across the Atlantic so they can't pass.
-Put a roof over the Atlantic so that it can't warm up.
-Shoot giant snowballs at the hurricane with a big gun.
-Break up the clouds with a giant spoon. (*sigh*)
And the worst one (as if the alien one wasn't bad enough):
-Stand on the shore and ask the hurricane if it would kindly leave us alone.
