Upper winds between 60-90 kts are blowing from west to east tearing the tops of the most intense thunderstorms in the ITCZ axis.

The system off the Carolinas is cold core and will remain cold core. No chance for tropical or subtropical development. As far as the system off the COA goes watch it fall part in the next 24 hours.

These strong waves exiting Africa are a preview of what to come by July/August/September. I think we will be dealing with a near repeat of 2004

I think it will be a busy season but I dont think what is happening out there now is going to have much bearing on what happens this summer and fall. If there is no El Nino as forecast it will be slower than last year but still with above normal activity.

How can it get slower than August 1st? Are you saying we have to wait towards September to see something?

What do you mean by slower? If you said spread out or not as intense, than I would know exactly what you mean. Is that what you mean by the way.

Just a request.....can we not make a thread about every wave that comes off of Africa? It just looks like this is starting a pattern.

I mean come on....the earliest *possible* formation is June for this area........and the earliest *likely* formation is late July.

No Ana came from a surface low that formed in conjunction with a frontal system and an upper disturbance. cycloneye just posted a report on Ana from the NHC in the hatteras' low thread.

Good eye, Kevin. You first saw the possibility of development of this low pressure area off the Carolinas. It looks like the system is being enhanced by the ULL to its southwest, which appears to be dissipating...
