Have just been awarded a graduate school met fellowship
This is the text of the e-mail I just received from the president of the American Meteorological Society indicating that I have been awarded an AMS fellowship for the upcoming year (22K for the 9 month period between Aug and May)
8 April 2005
Dear Mr. Ortt,
Congratulations!
I am most pleased to inform you that you have been selected as a recipient of an AMS Industry/Government Graduate Fellowship for the coming year.
We do, however, need a decision from you relatively soon (within about two weeks) as to whether you will be accepting this honor.
Your contact at AMS Headquarters for acceptance and questions about the award is:
Ms. Donna Fernandez
617-227-2426 x 246
DFernand@Ametsoc.org
Please be so kind as to (1) acknowledge receipt of this email, and (2) if you have any immediate questions, feel free to call me during the afternoon over the next several days at my direct number (1-800-854-7219).
We would certainly enjoy the pleasure of personally congratulating you on this notable achievement.
Again, it is important that you make contact before April 22nd with Ms. Fernandez to confirm your acceptance.
On behalf of the American Meteorological Society and the sponsors of these fellowships, we wish you a long, productive and personally rewarding professional career.
Again, congratulations.
Sincerely,
Walter A. Lyons, Ph.D., CCM

what this does is gives me the freedom to do some of my own research. Had I just ahve been a research assistant, I'd have had to work on the projects of my advisor, as she'd be paying my salary out of her research grants. Now, I still will be working almost exclusively on the RAINEX project as I am very interested in this
